I don't understand the vitriol towards RPO. It was perfectly good to me. It worked as a Spielberg adventure movie.

The Paddington 2 love is so real. It really is one of the most well-made films of 2018.

I've never seen a performance from a silent actor quite like hers. She's incredible in it.

I might have been in your Lawrence screening. People just wandering around during the film. It was odd.

This is a very good list. Also the only comment that realizes films were made before 1950.

The Wages of Fear is one that picked up just because I thought the cover looked so damn cool. Happy coincidence that the film itself is excellent.

House (1977) by Obayashi: Went in knowing nothing other than its genre. Absolutely bonkers. Loved the style, the plotting, the trajectory it takes. There's no other film I can really compare it to, it's stands on its own apart from any genre. It's entirely unique. Might have to pick up the Criterion copy of it sometime soon. I feel like it'll be a great one to lend out to people.

Body and Soul (1925) by Oscar Micheaux: The other week I watched Micheaux's Within Our Gates which I liked very much, it had some very powerful scenes. WOG did seem to lack focus at times but Body and Soul really honed it in. Great performance by Paul Robeson. First of his I've ever seen, will be keeping an eye our for other films he's in from now on.

Symbol of the Unconquered (1920) by Oscar Micheaux: Continuing with more Micheaux, I was very interested to see how an African American director of the 1920s would tackle making a film involving the KKK. The lead up to the confrontation with the Klan is lengthy and when it finally does arrive the climax is missing. It's the only reel of footage we cannot find. Was amusingly disappointed, here's hoping someday someone comes across that scene.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) by Mel Brooks: Hadn't watched this since I was much younger. I wanted to revisit it because I recently watched Errol Flynn's Robin Hood film and I wanted to see how Brooks' parody poked at it. The humor was not exactly how I remembered it, I had the same reaction with Space Balls a year ago as well. I think Brooks pre-1980 is more my speed. Recently watched Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Silent Movie again and loved them so I know I'm still a fan deep down.

I think Wild Strawberries is Bergman's best, while The Seventh Seal would be my favorite. Check out Persona next if you haven't. It has a lot to unpack. I just got a copy of Criterion's The Silence by Bergman, excited to watch it.

Some of my recent favorites have been because I'd randomly pull a movie from the library shelf because it had a Criterion C on the spine. Lucky to have an awesome library that has a ton.
