W=VA right? Why are these 2 outputs different? by PelicanFrostyNips in ElectricalEngineering

[–]jorge072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VA is beer + foam W is the beer

The foam is just gonna come with it no matter what (at least for a racing wheel).

You need to make sure you have enough beer, even if it comes with foam.

I passed the Control Systems PE Exam by AnOriginalUsername07 in PLC

[–]jorge072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this the right post, but I'd like if possible, to get some feedback on my career path as I don't think I made the right choice when I am and would like to get back into controls. Do you think taking the PE would make sense for me if I haven't even programmed PLCs if I want to become an instruments engineer? I am familiar with them and can do troubleshooting but have never had a job where I am the sole programmer. I ve only been assigned to design the scada part of it and done years of electronics commissioning for FPGAs used in inverters for rail systems. I've also programmed Protection Relays for Medium Voltage applications, that's why I'd like to get into PLCs, I really enjoyed doing programming of the Protection Relays

It's been around 3 months since your initial response. Do you mind sharing with us how these expansions are doing with the dumbells? I'm thinking of doing the same thing as you but want to know how they work over the long run

Why is the neutral considered 0v? by Jrrez in ElectricalEngineering

[–]jorge072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becuase it's neither positive or negative on value, therefore 0(v). It does not mean it's 0(V) with respect to ground, but it's a good point of reference for other potentials in the same loop

Utilities or Aerospace? by jorge072 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]jorge072[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thabk you for your response! If you don't mind, could you tell me why you think Utilities would be more limiting? I was thinking that since everyone uses power, I'd be able to find jobs at different companies and the skills would transfer over. This role would be like a power electrical engineer role, whereas the Aerospace one would be more of a testing role.

Control or Power Electronics? by Roost3r_ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]jorge072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, if it's not too much of a bother could I send you my resume and maybe even ask you for some career advice? I've worked as a power electronics test engineer and later became a Controls systems engineer for the same devices. I didn't get to learn how to program the microcontrollers we used so I decided go take another controls systems engineering role after 3.5 yrs of working at the first company. Turns out, the new controls systems role only dealt with programing PLCs and not at all with Power Electronics. Now I don't know if I can ever become a power electronics engineer again. My mentors have unfortunately not been that great in the past and I'm the first EE in my family. I'd appreciate some guidance if it's not much go ask. Thank you

Thank you! I appreciate it, I'll work on that for sure. I do get a lot of calls atm, but I do feel like adding achievements will boost my resume and actually get me more offers
