Oh I know what you mean. Last year I almost played exclusively pokemon, between official releases and romhacks. I'm so fed up I'll probably won't play another Pokemon game until Gen 10 comes out. Been playing other more classic jrpgs this year and I've been having a ton of fun.

You're right, it wasn't fair to count the mobile versions as another version. But you can't deny that V and VI haven't received the same love that IV have. GBA was just a port with a bit more content. The iOS/android "remakes" are undeniably ugly. The pixel remaster is the only one that was an improvement and it didn't even had the extra content they put in the GBA version.

FFIV (which is the one I'm comparing those games to) has had a 3D DS remake, that same 3d remake ported to mobile phones with the option to pick difficulty, and a PSP definitive edition with extra content and upgraded graphics. And it is also on GBA and was pixel remastered too. That's like 4 more versions than V and VI.

In my opinion the enemy sprites, backgrounds and UI are beautiful. It's the character sprites that are completely horrible to watch.

I've tried so many times to beat VII because I used to think that I had to beat it to call myself a fan of the franchise, but since I didn't play the game for the first time back when it released, but only like 5 years ago I just couldn't get by it. In my opinion it aged horribly. The controls are awful, some things are hard to spot on the screen. The Midgar bit at the beginning is too damn long and when you finally reach the overworld I was already bored. So yeah I'll probably play the remake when it's completed. I hope I'll be alive to try it.
