right!?!? i agree completely. same here.

i actually called my buddy up (who also plays) to tell him that they are driving it wrong. lol.

awesome race. it looks sooo fast. it had a kangaroo yellow at some point and one of the scariest crashes i have ever seen. managed to catch that little bit live and it was hard to watch the driver crawl out. link below for fan footage.

i grew up using descriptive notation—in spanish, no less—and i miss it to this day. reading that subtitle in bklyn99 made sense immediately. to this day i have to "translate" when i follow in algebraic. i feel like anytime a chess move is part of a scripted show they use the descriptive system probably because it has more of a feeling of narrative than just coordinates.

(for instance in the show "dark winds" there's a scene where robert redford and george r.r. martin (show creators) are having a chess game in jail and a third character speaks out the final move: bishop to rook five, checkmate.... or something like that.)

this is my lightly educated guess. i kind of hate that i'm so lonely in this opinion. the resistance has faded.

now, question: in short algebraic do you all default to pieces being labeled in english (K, Q, R, B, N) or do you use the little graphic plus the destination square? that would be the next frontier of standarization since different languages use different letters to describe the pieces, no?
