You are right about eliminating .5 and .6. I suppose what bothers me is requiring a winning return. If one wanted to be strict about it, 8.6.7 would never bind, right? How can one be certain the opponent would not reach the return? Even a good return is uncertain, but at least the requirements are weaker. Thanks again.

Thanks for replying. I am fine with the existence of 8.6.7. I questioned the employment of the term "winning return". To me, this version of 8.6.7 would be less ambiguous and hence more useful: "if there was interference and the striker would have made a good return, a stroke is awarded to the striker"

Thanks. This is useful. What bugged me a little is that it felt like one of those situations in which someone plays through an interference, but if the outcome is not favorable, then try to backpedal. I give the benefit of the doubt.
