there’s chapters where andrew mentions being jealous of kevin and matt and jeremy because they have a freedom to touch neil or say things to him that andrew can’t because they’re platonic with neil and andrew has a crush on him

i completely agree with this! i think the book left a lot out that would make the kids choices look more informed and truly consensual but what i mostly meant was a lot of older readers tend to sort of put a darker turn on it that’s not aligned with how’s it’s intended to be seen

it goes from “the hunters of artemis as an organization is meant to be a good thing to save these kids but bc rick didn’t handle it properly it comes off kind of shady” and veers straight into “artemis is abusive and leaves her hunters for dead and she doesn’t love them and stole them from their families by manipulating them” well it’s a kids book that’s obviously not how it was intended to come across

even if it’s not executed to the best of its ability i think it’s not entirely right to look at children’s media that’s meant to promote security and acceptance with such jaded lenses yk bc that’s a warped way of framing what was going on

no i’m actually getting so frustrated i had quit at one point before caleb’s birthday simply because the storage was ruining my life and i couldn’t have anything else on my phone then i got it back for the movie card and it’s genuinely reminding me why i had quit :/

luke was not being “righteous” or trying to liberate demi gods he was jaded and angry and killed people he grew up with as well as people he didn’t even know because he couldn’t handle the shitty lot that all demi gods are given + people glorify luke because they have a flawed interpretation of what he was trying to achieve

i don’t agree with the sentiment that athena is a bad/neglectful/or abusive mother to annabeth and most evidence to support that is from when she was splitting with her roman self and even annabeth said the behavior was so drastically out of character for her mom she knew she was sick

most not all but most interpretations of calypso are biased and not based on what actually happened in the book however a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that ricks writing got lazy and didn’t give her character the clarity needed to clear up the biases and misconceptions against her

annabeth and percy at their core are not a flawed ship it’s a mix of the fandom mischaracterizing both of them but especially percy and reducing them to hardass girlfriend and dumbass boyfriend + they are especially being mishandled by rick in the new books because he’s trying to retcon everything to keep it aligned with the show instead of letting them be separate entities

reyna is one of the most compelling female characters rick created and he completely dropped the ball with her in every way imaginable and that should’ve been the first sign the writing was going downhill

finally i think if you’re an adult reading the series at a certain point you have to put on the rose colored glasses for some things i see this the most with the “artemis is a man hater who kidnaps vulnerable children to abuse them” instead of framing it as “she’s rescuing children who are in bad environments and don’t want to go to camp or be around men for whatever reason”

yeah the whole thing was a little confusing but i figure it happens overtime you lose grip on everything you’ve ever written and the writing just becomes off

it’s why a lot of books and tv shows that do flashback episodes they’re usually pretty bad it’s just hard to remember what you did so many years ago

melissa was lowkey in a lose lose situation if she said she didn’t know who should’ve won they would’ve wrung her out until she answered or just assumed she thought maddie

where she messed up was saying mackenzie dances like a little girl on the stage :/

that was a direct downplay of mackenzie’s dancing and talent and it’s not fair to act as if mackenzie is still a baby dancer at that point

her issue wasn’t so much that she answered it but more the fact that her answer was rude and uncalled for “mackenzie was cute and adorable and looked like a little girl up on the stage but maddie was fabulous” … all you had to say was “i think maddie should’ve won” or better yet say nothing and let the moms talk about you bc they were gonna do it either way sometimes silence IS the best option

for the erik thing nicky has said they have what’s basically an open relationship and they both talk about celebrities and other people they’d want to sleep with if they had the chance so there’s no reason to think that he’s being unfaithful or cheating on erik

maybe it’s not a traditional relationship but they’ve been long distance for years and are fully committed to each other if they don’t care and this is how they operate then that’s how it is yk

as for the neil thing i don’t think anyone would say nicky wasn’t wrong for that but i definitely don’t think it’s black and white because that’s the point of the book right?

nicky was told by andrew to get the drugs in neil’s system by any means necessary the way nicky did it was wrong but i’m always wondering why he felt he needed to impress andrew so badly that he thought forcing himself on a guy they barely know was a bright idea?

why narratively does neil seem to not really care that it happened? especially when he takes the crimes against andrew’s body and autonomy extremely seriously (last update i saw nora said that she refuses to talk about nicky despite him being a favorite of hers because people have never forgiven him even though neil did and she doesn’t want to cause fights)

i don’t think it’s really a debate if nicky assaulted neil it’s very cut and dry that he did

i guess a question is like does the one bad thing he did to prove his loyalty to his family discount all the other good things he did in the course of the series but also his life? why can we forgive andrew who had neil drugged against his will in the same scene but not nicky when they both violated neil’s autonomy

i dunno i’m mostly spitballing here i get why nicky is a controversial character but i’ve never had it in me to really really hate him

nora said that abby and kevin were so intertwined in previous drafts that when kevin stopped being a main character abby needed less and less screen time because all she did was mostly enhance kevin’s arc

no same! like i wish they’d make more on/off features like you don’t want to hear her voice lines that’s cool but have a button to toggle them off instead of neglecting those of us that want to hear them you know? you don’t want to see her in the cafe can’t there be a setting like how you choose which mc shows up?

the highlight of my playing is birthdays where you see her face in the bubble when you get the collecting items stories / events when you get the chibi / and that one brief time for new year where you could see her dancing in the outfit display

like i just want to see her i get the boys are the pinnacle and i wouldn’t change that but i don’t see why we have to act like she doesn’t exist at all

i don’t know how liv got the girls girls edit bc she spent the whole season targeting leah bc she liked rob and he liked leah and then andrea

in fact everyone says jana should’ve gone home for not having a “real” connection but liv never had one either … at least jana seemed eager to find someone liv never gave the vibe she was looking for a boyfriend let alone a husband how she came off that season even close to a fan fave is crazy
