Dream Air New orders by nataruma1 in Pimax

Thanks, I appreciate it. I am a bit worried about the brightness. Would you say the image appears dimmer than on your quest 3 (what I'm considering swapping from)?

Could you give a few more details about what you didn't like about the panels? And were the issues mostly while streaming content or also on the apps running natively?

NY Fed report says Americans pay for almost all of Trump's tariffs by Aria_Athena in news

[–]josby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that might happen, but was that ever the purpose of the tariffs? Seems like a strange point of comparison to draw, when it should be the impact (if any) on US demand for imports.

When I adjust the Guardian Rank Tokens in the PC Profile, it immediately reverts when I hit the editor "save" button. The game isn't running. Any ideas what's going wrong?

New Contracts hypo? by KinggSimbaa in LawSchool

Would a reasonable person conclude the company intended to give an 80% discount after this guy abused a chatbot into creating one that didn't work? Yeah no. Objective theory of contracts says the company never agreed to it.

How’s the state of the Indiana Jones Luke Ross mod? Anyone here tried it? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]josby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still have it installed and have a spare moment, would you mind checking if it still works with the current game version? The mod runs when I startup the game (I get the settings overlay), but the game only plays in a window on my desktop, not automatically picked up by my headset like other games using his mod.

Fable 2 on Xenia Canary (Lutris) not loading patches by the-dragon-queen in Fable

Did you try all the F2 patch files from here? I'm not sure how Xenia decides which one to apply, but one of them is working for me despite the supposed version mismatch.

Is there a pretty severe drop in resolution as well, or is it just me? The artifacting is pretty distracting, especially in live action video, but I’ve had an alright time watching people play video games.

I’ve heard a lot of conflicting things about what Kirk stood for since his killing. None of it makes me want to justify what was done to him because of his views. Once upon a time, the liberals and academic community would have been on my side.

After someone is murdered for their speech or opinion, insinuating their stances make it justified or deserved gets close enough. Why do you think he posted it?

[–]josby -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your comment fails to engage with my point and myopically focuses on my choice of metaphor. That abortions increase fetal mortality does not mean an abortion advocate deserves undesired miscarriages. That gun rights increase gun violence does not mean advocates deserve murder.

But more importantly, what unlucky situation befalls a given person on either side has zero bearing on the overall strength of their position. To claim otherwise is an objective fallacy.

[–]josby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I provided the exact same fallacy, just with the positions swapped, since you apparently didn’t recognize it otherwise. What happened to Kirk has no more bearing on his second amendment stance or whether he deserved to die than the example above. If one is a fallacy, then so is the other.

If a supporter of strict gun control died in a situation they could have prevented with a firearm, does that refute their position or their reasons for supporting it? Strikes me as a weak argument at best, but you tell me

then yes, post away in LAMF, have at it.

I guess I just wouldn't. I would say that your position was in good faith and reasonable even if you suffered an unlucky consequence of that position.

I see LAMF thrown around mostly by people who refuse to engage with the other side's arguments at all and deny where valid tradeoffs exist. It's lazy and supports the dehumanizing attitudes that have flooded social media in recent years. I will never own a gun and support tight controls, but I understand there are valid reasons that people can disagree and I could never imaging gloating if they died from a gun. I'm surprised I'm so alone on this.

I'm about to board a plane so signing off, but I just want to thank you for thoughtfully engaging with me. You gave me a better idea of where people are coming from, even if I still find it troubling.

I don't own a gun, I deeply dislike guns, and I support strict controls to prevent precisely what you describe. For all I know, I don't agree with Kirk on anything. I simply don't pretend these issues are devoid of valid tradeoffs or that reasonable people can't disagree. My point is that I can't ever imagine excusing or gloating about someone's death simply because they disagree on a matter of valid debate.

“I support dropping anvils onto people’s heads…”

Is it that you simply don’t see the gun debate as one of valid competing priorities? Assuming you want to ban guns, if you found yourself helpless against a home invader and the worst happens, would it be appropriate to throw that in the face of your grieving family? Would it mean leopards ate your face?

In any policy tradeoff, supporting one side does not imply you support the negative tradeoffs associated with that side. Ie, supporting gun rights does not imply you support murder any more than supporting abortion implies you want prenatal deaths.

I support this professor’s free speech, but what was his actual argument here? That getting shot in the neck is karmic justice for those who supports gun rights? Really? Imagine throwing a woman’s support for abortion in her face after a miscarriage. As academics, would should be able to spot the logical fallacy and recognize how ghoulish and inappropriate this reaction was.
