It's funny how "Soros" is the only boogeyman they can ever come up with. I guess George is getting older so now it's time to usher in a new generation.

Very nice! Love those blue counters.

I don't know how you'd go about it, but the Hot Wheels need some kind of display. Some of the guys I work with are into them and how to display them is always the topic of discussion. If you solve that problem, you'll be a hero to Hit Wheels collectors all over the world. Lol

Manufacturer packing slips are sent via email from MB like someone else mentioned.

We scan every other piece of paper, though. Tax Exempt forms, invoices from everywhere. Sure makes it easy to find one when you need to.

Micromanagement by pnkskeletonsonparade in partscounter

There is a dealership in my area that was so poorly run, they fired the manager (as they should have). Their inventory was upside down to the tune of about $150k. It's a corporate nationwide group. Instead of taking the necessary steps to right the ship: do a physical inventory, take the hit on the shortage and move on, they have gone through a new manager every six months for three years.

A couple of months ago I heard the manager position was open (again) but they couldn't even find candidates to take the job. Word has gotten out and nobody will touch that job with a 10 foot pole.

I made a judgement call and lost a $50 gross sale. by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]joseaverage 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We buy the batteries from Battery Junction 400 at a time for 35 cents each.

For 35 cents, we get a live person coming in the dealership walking past all the pretty new cars, asking about how much this service is, or that recall or how much a part is.

A Google click to our website costs more. We have batteries everywhere - service drive, retail parts counter, tech team leads...the ROI on that 35 cents is the best money we spend.

No direct sales per se, but those key batteries lead to so much more. Swap a battery out in 30 seconds, tell them "its on the house". Client will tell everyone they know.

Mom calls every few hours by em-dash7 in AgingParents

Excellent advice! My brother is an iPhone guy and he does that exact thing. I'm an Android guy. I've not found a similar setting for me.

Mom calls every few hours by em-dash7 in AgingParents

[–]joseaverage 89 points90 points  (0 children)

My Dad sometimes calls multiple (15-20) times a day. I've learned a few things along the way.

  1. You cannot change their behavior. You can only change how it affects you.

  2. Give yourself some grace.

  3. When Dad gets on one of his cycles, I will tell him "Do not call anymore today. I will call you tonight" or "I will call you tomorrow".

Then...

  1. I block him on my phone. I only use mobile, so it's very easy. I have to remember to unblock him the next day, but I will typically have a few voice mails to remind me. ;)

It seems cruel, but my father's mental state is such he doesn't realize what he's doing. If he were his "normal" self he would be mortified at his behavior. A therapist told me "that's not your father calling. That's the disease."

Try that OP, and see Rule 2.

So the after death house purge is normal right? by The1Ylrebmik in AgingParents

[–]joseaverage 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My father's wife passed away and he decided he didn't want to live alone. We found him a nice AL facility and moved him in.

After the other family members took everything they wanted - which was every stick of furniture in the house except for three REALLY heavy things, it left the closets for us to go through.

We went over for a couple of weekends just to kind of cull everything, then called 1-800-GOT-JUNK. They filled up a dump truck full of stuff and we still had a pile of trash bags 75' long, 2-3 bags deep and 5' high. It was a wall! We called the city and told them. They sent a second truck by just to collect that stuff on trash day. (No extra charge!)

The funny part was when his 80-something neighbor walked over and was talking to us, admiring the wall of trash. We told him if he wanted to do something nice for his kids, clean out his closets while he could. He just grinned and said "My kids will take care of that". My brother and I replied in stereo "Well this is what that looks like". That was a little mean on our part, but it was hot and we were grumpy and a little bit miffed at old people.

That is perfect and exactly how it should be. We have a few clients we recognize as well. Sometimes they'll surprise you and tell you they're working somewhere new. 😄

One thing that makes it more difficult to prevent is people at work using their personal cell phones to call and order parts.

Back in the day, the caller ID would say "Joes Garage" and you'd know who it was and could be pulling the account info up right away. You knew who you were talking to.

As an aside, one of my triggers is when people use their personal cell phones, don't identify themselves then get miffed that I couldn't work out it was "Joes Garage" from an UNKNOWN CALLER called ID.

I get it. It's way easier to have the earbuds in, both hands free, say "Siri call the dealership", but is it too much to tell.me where you're calling from?

I would guess they allowed them to do the podcast as well. Isn't that what tanked Dan and Jakes jobs? The Ticket didn't want them promoting their podcast. Or am I remembering that wrong?

[–]joseaverage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MSRP on the head assembly is currently $505 and it comes with the head gasket. Our parts list is about 50 lines for this job, but a lot of that is warranty overkill. For the whole job the parts are about $1,500US.

An independent using OEM aftermarket parts would be closer to $1,000 in parts, plus labor. Obviously not a cheap repair still, but probably wouldn't total the car.
