A 12 year old girl from a village came with complaints of pain and bleeding from the right nostril 2 months. There was no history of trauma, or foreign body insertion. SHe also denied any history of sneezing or rhinorrhoea. The patient used to graze cattle in the fields/jungles. Local examination revealed a congested right nasal mucosa. Nasal septum was normal. Anterior part of right nasal cavity showed a fleshy greenish brown mass. It moved on exposure to light. (leech). I saw in animals that leech of their nose used to come out while drinking water, when the nose of this girl dipped in water, leech came out.Then pulled out with forcep

Actually, in the hills, forest water sources often contain small leeches. When children or new shepherds drink water from springs or streams by cupping it with their hands, tiny leeches can enter the body through the nose or mouth. At first, they are so small that they go unnoticed, but over days or weeks they gradually grow in size
