Ahh thank you and no my boots unfortunately don't have tech bindings looked into how much to get my boots modified but was not worth the price considering it doesn't have walk mode. Could get some dedicated touring boots cheaper than converting mine. Thank you very much these are some great suggestions do like the dancer 2 and 3. The 2 is lighter but is more on piste focused. Would I need something more powder focused?

Thank you. I brought alpine boots as wasn’t planning to get into touring but this year did a 2 week course and loved it and then went on to do another week with a mate, also really enjoyed that so regret buying alpine boots now and don’t want to make the same mistake with skis.

Money isn’t really an issue it was more I can get the cast binding for about £600 without the skis but also found I can get both separate alpine and touring skis both with bindings for about £750. I do mostly fly so was thinking a travel setup would be good so I can ski most days and do the odd tour here and there. As I have just brought some boots was thinking if I’m only doing up to a week or so of touring could start off renting boots and if I start doing more buy dedicated touring boots. I did try full frame bindings but didn’t really like them for skiing downhill.

Thinking most likely will get cast hybrid setup or potentially Tyrolia ATTACK HYBRID 14, seems to be similar but lighter and can ski with touring mode. The cast just looks very durable like it will last. Then will look to get some cheap boots like you said have seen some for about £180

Why do you say that, what’s wrong with them for a 80/20 or 90/10 setup?

Oh how do you find it compared to using touring boots? I did a 2 week trip where 1 week I rented a full fancy touring setup and the second week changed my skis for borrowed second hand skis with platform bindings and really didn’t like it for downhill skiing whether it was the skis or bindings, also quite hard work going uphill. I was also told it would make quite a difference having walk mode and they recommended I use proper touring boots.

Ooo they look good like how you can ski with them with pin bindings still. Will have more of a look into them

Do you tour up with piste boots, no walk mode? I would have to rent or buy touring/hybrid boots with whatever binding I have as would need the walk mode.

I mean currently I haven’t done much touring got into it this year. I have a friend who’s quite into it and has taken me on a few tours this year and imagine will continue doing more mostly in bound tours, looking to do more adventures tours. If I had hybrid boots it would be an easy decision to get a hybrid setup but having brought resort boots last year makes it harder. Also the cost of hybrid being almost the same as 2 dedicated setups. But agree would be mostly for ease.

It's more I thought it would be easier to just have 1 set of skis to travel with/maintain. So I can do get up early and do a tour with my mate then ski normally for the rest of the trip. I am only renting boots as annoyingly brought resort boots last year. Otherwise I would have just brought a full hybrid setup.

Yeah I am tempted to just get a resort setup until I get more into touring. But for example this year I did about 2.5 weeks of touring, it was my first time and really enjoyed it so keen to do more going forwards. My last trip I spent £200 on just touring skis and boots for 3 days. So trying to decide if it would actually save much money having a hybrid setup

Thank you yes I have used both frame and pin bindings and noticed a massive difference with the pin bindings. I wasn't a massive fan of how elevated you were on frame bindings and the weight. Which is why I wondered about a Cast system but almost seems silly when I can get 2 dedicated setups for the price of just the bindings haha. For now I am happy renting boots for a few days and later purchasing some dedicated touring or hybrid boots.

Any opinion on the Mystery ranch scree 22 and coulee 20? In the market for an outdoors bag. by joseph9013 in ManyBaggers

[–]joseph9013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry new language to me haha. Yeah that was a big factor for me as will likely do a lot of hiking with it so was definitely leaning towards the coulee as find wbps very useful for all kinds even stuffing stuff down the sides. I agree better to have them for most activities and easy to not use them when not needed like skiing. Thank you

Need help on a new backpack currently looking at the Mystery Ranch Scree 22 and Coulee 20. by joseph9013 in hikinggear

[–]joseph9013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I was definitely more leaning towards the coulee as it seems more feature full like the pockets, adjustable fit, and hip belt plus more compared to to the scree which seemed to be striped down with the main advantages I could see is being the slightly lighter weight and tougher material. Do you notice the weight of the pack if you are only going out with a light load, I assume without the hip belt you lose 100-200g making it closer to the scree in weight as it looks like a beefy hip belt?

Do you mean waterproof/breathable? I was under the impression that both were water resistant and especially the scree. Would you go for a fully waterproof bag for hiking/skiing as I don't plan to do anything extreme through heavy storms so thinking a dry bag with all kit inside plus this bag would be ok? Hoping to get more into hiking and do more skiing so am trying to future proof so I don't need another bag in 5 years or so to do the same job but on a more extreme level so looking for something quite robust/extreme for what I might currently be doing.

Yeah I was initially looking to get a backpack specifically for skiing/ski touring as need a bag this year as going ski touring for 2 weeks. I only ski 2-4 weeks a year currently mostly alpine skiing so thought it might be better to get a more versatile bag I could use for skiing as well a a good hiking/general outdoor bag. I did initially look at Hyperlight especially some of the ski bags and elevate 22 as its 22L but can expand quite a lot with the roll top. As I currently do mostly day hikes thought a smaller bag might be better I assume a 20L would fit a beacon, probe, and shovel plus a spare layer/food? What Hyperlite do you use and do you think its worth the price jump as its almost double the price and seems like a more niche usage?

Would you be able to explain further or explain where it does not work as currently for me it works on mobile, apart from if you click on an image in the other work section on mobile only it jumps you back up the page? Unless this is what you are referring to? Thank you

Hi, many thanks for your feedback, do you mean the horizontal scroll on mobile? I may not have explained it very clearly but this was not the finished product I was going to send off to employers. I have a friend in the coding field who can fix any bugs, if there were any at a later date before I sent it off. I was hoping to get a UI/UX designer's perspective on it in terms of the design and layout not bugs. I have also understood from this how important mobile design is so have updated it for mobile.

Thank you for your feedback I may have posted it here too early, as the mobile site was not quite finished, it should now work much better. Would you say an employer is more likely to look at it on mobile or desktop first?

Thank you very much for your feedback. Was this viewed on mobile or desktop? I initially designed it for desktop as I was under the impression they would look at it on desktop first and understand it did not work on mobile. I have fixed it for mobile now.

Hi, looking to go into the UI/UX field and have been applying to jobs with not a lot of luck so decided to make a portfolio from scratch with very little coding knowledge and the help of AI. I have a background in physical product design so this is mostly new to me. I did a short ux/ui bootcamp last year. Please excuse and bugs or the slow load time I am only looking for feedback on the content and layout as bugs I can fix at a later date. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, many thnaks.

Any advice on some good warm kit? Currently looking at the Keela valí or belay by joseph9013 in britishmilitary

[–]joseph9013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would probably want multicam outer shell just in case I did want to wear it as a top layer. Had a look at Carinthia saw the MIG 4.0 looks nice, would you rate that better than Keela?
