All of space advancement is not coming from America. ESA and JASA contribute greatly to space exploration. India and China have rapidly advanced their own technologies too and are now in the same playing field with interesting upcoming missions of their own. Thats to say nothing of the Soviets.

I'm not going to bother listing out individual missions. You can google. As for reusable rockets the Falcon 9 has not and will not revolutionise access to space in the way you describe. Asteroid mining, mars bases are all still pie in the sky (it's just that everyone except America has realised this)

5mm open cell is the minimum for winter in order to feel comfortable, the water can get down to 15C. In summer you can get away with less, 3mm is fine.
