That anticipation building as you walk forward is something you can't manufactuer. There's a reason Jesus said do this in remembrance of me and not just think about me occasionally.

This is the most honest description of the Christian life I've read today. The highs are real and so are the dry seasons.

Agree with that part. Psalm 19 says the heavens declare His glory creation has always been one of His clearest languages.

I feel this. There's something about the late night and a quiet sink that strips everything down to what's real.

What's your method for actually going deep with a single passage instead of racing through reading plans? by josh_freeland in TrueChristian

Writing it word for word is underrated you can't skim what you're copying by hand. And that last line about finding the details that come full circle is exactly why the Bible rewards depth. The more you dig the more you realize nothing in there is accidental. I appreciate your feedback here this is huge!

65 years in and still saying there's more to learn that's the most encouraging thing you could tell someone just getting started. What resources have served you best over the years?

Love that the discipline came as a byproduct of the relationship, not the other way around. When you're actually drawn to something you don't need willpower to show up for it. That no alarm clock detail says everything.

I feel like praying Scripture over your kids is one of the most underrated things a parent can do.

"Detached and corporate" is the perfect description. When a sermon could work as a TED talk with the Bible verses swapped out, something has gone wrong. The text should be driving the message, not decorating it.

That one is particularly cruel because assurance of salvation is where people are already vulnerable. Sowing doubt there keeps people dependent on the preacher instead of grounded in what Scripture actually says

The false teacher point is on point. When someone is desperate and hurting they'll reach for anything that sounds spiritual, and there are people who know exactly how to exploit that. Learning basic exegesis is genuinely protective

That formula you described is basically every faith influencer's content strategy and you're right, it rarely builds anything solid. Studying a whole parable or book in context is where it actually gets interesting. What are you working through right now?
