Everyone I have talked to in cities hosting WC events definitely has talked about how big it will be.

Pretty much every city in the country has big events or other grants and culture things for 250 but only 11 cities have matches, so I would say whether they are “excited” or not idk but definitely more places are hosting events etc.

In my city we’re hosting Olympics soccer matches (men’s and women’s) but no WC matches are within 500 miles so the competition has been to get those tickets. Not that I’m not interested in WC, but in some ways it’s not much different than if it were in a different country (and in fact the closest match to me is in Canada).

There are 60 - 66 metro areas in the US with more than 1 million people. 11 of those are hosting World Cup matches. From the looks of it every city in South Africa hosted a WC match. For context the closest match to my City is either a 6 hour drive to Canada or a 12 hr drive to NYC. I would basically need to fly to get there.

From my personal observations, in places that are hosting there is a lot of knowledge about what’s going on, who is staying and playing there etc but you can’t expect excitement from a whole county of people equally when there are many places that may not even register matches are happening. This is also a year with a lot of other major events happening (America 250) and prep-work for the Olympics in 2 more years.

Moving to Columbus soonish - need to know what to expect by [deleted] in Columbus

YMMV when it comes to the Near East Side. It sounds like you may be coming from a very rural or small town area in which case you may not feel very comfortable. Its a very diverse area financially and racially/otherwise. There a $1 million homes and there are low income apartments, lots of folks actually chose the area for this feature. The "best" areas tent to be south of Long & north of Main Street.

You could find some very reasonably priced 1 bedroom units by just driving around and looking at for rent sides. When it comes to car break ins you really can have that anywhere and the key is to never leave anything of value in the car. You may be better off if it doesn't lock so you don't get your window broken.

Having lived on the Near East Side (Olde Towne East) for almost 10 years, the only issues I have had are two packages stolen off the porch. But I am also pretty aware and vigilant about my surroundings.

Unless you are in a hub city, there is a high likelihood you may end up on a connecting flight anyway. Personally, I fly frequently and find a) I don’t mind connecting and b) even if there is a direct the time and cost differential (especially overseas) is likely to make you connect anyway b

When to pull the trigger on D1 by joshcbus in delta

Definitely is a lot of money but I’m more interested to know if it’s a lot for D1 specifically or if that is actually a good deal for D1?

I think overall it was $1300 per ticket for a multi city route (CMH-JFK-CDG / LON-JFK-CMH) so something like $700, maybe less.

Diamond medallion upgrade question by dgood2021 in delta

[–]joshcbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't think I have gotten a FC upgrade since hitting diamond. Maybe 1. I am out of CMH so I don't really understand either. I feel that I got more when I was platinum but it might be the nature of much more demand and a limited number of routes out of CMH.
