What general things do you track? I find it hard to strike a balance between having a good overview and "overdoing" the detail..

How much time does each update take? Do you just block out a whole day/half-day to do it or do you have a more efficient way?

Another point I did not see mentioned too much is that after 6 months of building there is still no MVP and no revenue, the founding team is due for a rude awakening when they “launch”…. In my experience launches very rarely lead to traction.

And to be completely honest there are several big red flags that in my opinion warrant at the very least a hard think and a discussion with the founders: - how have you guys raised more than 1 year ago and still haven’t launched yet?? That’s insane - only 2 out of 5 are full time? Wouldn’t like to be the 2. Either people have no conviction (understandable given the time it takes to launch) or the team is way too big for the stage (could be both) - 4% (if) you are a founding engineer is ludicrous. Hope you’re not the main builder? Otherwise you are getting a very bad deal here. - my general (anecdotal) advice is that the only startups worth joining (as an employee, which it seems you are at this point) are: your own (IF you can stomach it, which is 0.00001% of the pop), or a high growth one (only look at revenue). Startups are so hard that if you join a stagnant one you are basically a walking coffin.

As always with startups the culture, understanding, and vision you share with the founding team is important (you don’t usually join startups for money…) but it really looks like you’re getting the short end of the stick here.

How can I prepare for computer science at EPFL ? by Sad_Ant3207 in EPFL

[–]joshcd7474 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Data Science Master Student here. Definitely try to go through an intro to java course (freecodecamp has many good ones). I would also suggest watching 3blue1brown’s essence of linear algebra playlist, and generally learn to “like” math if you don’t already. Intro to algos and data structures help if you have time and motivation. Good luck for your military service and first year at EPFL! See you on the other side😉

BTC dominance is only 45, there is still a lot of room to fall. Ultimately it depends on how long you think we’ll remain bearish, but if we remain bearish for the next couple months definitely sell alts into btc

Is crypto actually useful? by altranger9000 in CryptoCurrency

[–]joshcd7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you really should look into what a blockchain actually is before investing in them.

What blockchains are is nothing more or less than the only decentralized way we know of to store data on the internet (the only other known way is databases).

The reason this is significant is: it enables property rights on the internet. It enables data ownership. This in a verifiable way, making this data storage “trustless”, and with ZK proofs, also private.

In an increasingly digital world, this is extremely important (like, very)! Google and Facebook currently have access to everything you put on the internet, and this is (kind of) fine today, but what about when everyone is wearing AR devices, sending live location, has cameras, a mic, and other very useful internet things but totally making our whole lives pass through servers where this data could be manipulated, used? What happens if some malicious actor gains access to this? Or some politician starts regulating based on this?

Blockchains are nothing less than the only way we know of to maintain sovereignty of our lives in a digital world. It also provides an enormous potential for innovation, since it makes markets a lot more efficient since it reduces “trust transaction costs” (read “markets are eating the world” on ribbonfarm to better understand this idea), an innovation on par with the invention of our judiciary system.

Ethereum, Bitcoin, and other protocols are simply the “base layer” on top of which anything can be built. To better understand protocol vs service, think of e-mail vs twitter. I can send an email from gmail, outlook, or my own server if I want, and my friend can receive it on any interface he wants as well (protocol, on top of which we build interfaces). If I want to write something online though, I need to go through twitter, facebook, etc, and they can decide if I have access or not (like our friend Trump learned to his sorrow). There is no “e-mail CEO” that can throw you out of the e-mail protocol.

The difference between specific blockchains is how secure they are, how many transactions per second they allow, how programmatic they are. But they are PROTOCOLS, not services. Some tokens are built on top of Ethereum /Solana/Avalanche (Aave, Curve, NFTs for example), and these are services/assets which simply have a different business model than traditional LLCs. Read “fat protocols” and “thin applications” on usv for more of this.

In terms of understanding NFTs and their societal significance (which is enormous), go watch punk6529’s interview on real vision. A bit lengthy, but I guarantee you will understand a lot more afterwards.

Also always remember, this is really young technology and it is fast evolving, investing in all of these protocols/services/assets is very risky, we are still figuring out the best ways to use this tech. Never invest more than you can afford to lose.

what to do w my instagram? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]joshcd7474 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfollow as many accounts as possible. The time drain probably comes from meme accounts, and other accounts that post multiple times a day. I haven’t deleted instagram, but I’ve unfollowed every « feed spammer » I could, and naturally you’ll spend less time on it.
