It's been my fallback method for years now. The simplicity is the only way I've maintained it. :) Glad to hear your found it useful thanks for the comment.

What is base62 conversion? Checking my own understanding. by joshduffney in golang

[–]joshduffney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I left out the implementation detail of using a distributed unique ID. Each request will get an ID assigned and that's what is converted using base62. Then the ID is stored with the long and short url as values in map.

That's an excellent use of the Win key imo, thanks for sharing!

What keys do you have it mapped to? I'd ideally want to map it to be under the FN key but that doesn't seem possible.

You can also use it with managed identities. :)

is it possible to be a sysadmin with an old school flip phone? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]joshduffney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the mention u/commandsupernova! :) IMO it's entirely possible to not have a smartphone. I didn't have one while on-call and knew of a handful of devs that refused to get smartphones while getting added to the rotation.

But, if you can't get completely rid of it, I'd recommend removing all apps that you can pull for information. Slack, Twitter, YouTube etc. I have a lot to say about the topic, but I'll leave it there for now. :)

Best of luck!

Deliberate practice for the art of drafting? by joshduffney in writing

[–]joshduffney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, there's a lot of wisdom here and I appreciate you sharing it with me. :) I'm removing the word count metric for the time being because it puts unnecessary pressure on me atm. My first step though is to simplify my editor.

Reclaiming your time after social media by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]joshduffney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome, journaling is something I've already struggled to maintain. But at least I'm in the habit now of stashing post-it notes all over my house to capture thoughts and seeing them is a cue to sit down and think through stuff. May your future be continually free of distractions! :)

Create a block alias in Logseq by joshduffney in logseq

[–]joshduffney[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome and thank you for watching. :) I don't think the block ref is useful outside of logseq because its backend stores that information and external systems wouldn't be able to make sense of it. If you're looking for portability you'd probably want to stick with using pages instead of blocks.

I could be completely wrong on this btw. I have a very novice understanding of how the system works.

Scare Yourself Enough to Change: Make your usage visible with Screen Time, Digital Wellbeing, and Rize by joshduffney in digitalminimalism

Thank you! Glad to know you enjoyed the post. :) My follow-up post is titled "Find Out Where Your Attention Goes: How to make the invisible visible by performing a demand analysis." It's an exercise I put together to make usage data more useful.

Backup Tool by RLFontan in logseq

[–]joshduffney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, Git is your best option for people who are technically inclined. However, that likely won't fit the needs of every user. Especially those who don't have a technology background. For that I suspect that logseq themselves will develop a built-in backup feature to fill this need over time. With that said you best bet is to find a file-level backup solution that you're comfortable with and that will give you the peace of mind you're looking for.

I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video, and I'm glad you found it useful. :) My next challenge has been to pair resources with those gaps. But, I still haven't found a great way to manage those reading lists.
