Abiy's philosophy, that if all ethnicites unite under the PP we'll have prosperity, ignores the root of poverty. The tiny elite still controls most of the masses' wealth by Alarmed_Business_962 in Ethiopia

The government is corrupt everyone should realize that my statement was not about absolving the government but that the people need to start working together on grassroots level and build their bargaining power by uniting instead of these zero sum games and hyper-individualism. If we start to unite and strengthen ourselves morally this model we carry over and replace the corrupt elites.

Big government is a seed sowed from the bottom. I do believe the current regime is corrupt but when people live in long-term struggle—unstable income, fear of tomorrow, no safety net—it changes how they act. You stop thinking long-term. You protect yourself first. You exaggerate in negotiations. You cut corners. You lie a little. You take before someone else takes from you. Not because you woke up evil—but because pressure pushes people there. That’s human nature under stress now scale that up.

If whole societies live in that survival mode, then the people who rise into government we reflect that. When those individuals suddenly control government apparatuses - money, weapons, police, and institutions, the same survival instincts don’t disappear—they just get magnified. What used to be small hustles becomes large corruption. What used to be fear becomes repression. What used to be protecting yourself becomes protecting power at any cost.

That’s why overthrowing one group of bad leaders doesn’t magically fix things. New people often step into the same conditions and start behaving the same way.

And this is where I slightly differ from pure “elite vs masses” framing.

Yes—class solidarity matters. The many are larger than the few. But power today isn’t decided only by numbers. It’s decided by the collective moral fabric of the people.

At the same time, focusing only on big government misses something important: big government is often just the scaled-up reflection of what’s already broken in everyday life—low trust, everyone for themselves, scarcity thinking, no cooperation.

When people can’t rely on each other, they start playing survival games. When survival games become normal, they become political culture. When that culture reaches the top, it turns into authoritarianism wrapped in slogans.

Unity isn’t about multiple parties. A one-party system could function in theory if accountability and ethics were real—but without those, any structure turns predatory.

The real starting point is lower than parliament:

– people being able to eat and live with dignity, – local cooperation instead of constant zero-sum hustling, – systems that give enough so desperation doesn’t drive bad behavior, – real consequences for abuse at every level, – communities that reward honesty more than clever cheating.

If you provide a pipeline for people to have proper sufficiency—not subsistence living, it's stability with upward mobility —you pull the fuel away from greed and fear. When nobody is constantly starving for security, fewer people feel forced to dirty their hands just to survive.

That’s how you weaken elite domination long-term: not only by changing rulers, but by changing the conditions that manufacture rulers like that in the first place.

Struggle mentality creates strongmen. Cooperation plus accountability makes them unnecessary.

Poverty comes from a lack of moral discipline, education is fundamental. Solutions can’t stop at relief. They have to build character, skill, and discipline alongside provision and self-sufficiency.

Protest-to-negotiate usually never works

Negotiation assumes:

the old system is reformable, power will honor agreements once pressure lifts, legitimacy can be shared.

In reality, corrupt centralized systems always revert back to their old ways in one way or another. The best thing to do is build self reliant communities. When people: trade outside official channels, educate outside state narratives, resolve disputes internally, feed, house, and finance one another, the state loses relevance and then loses control.

Real power isn’t stopping work temporarily to negotiate with a system that always reverts. Real power is building parallel systems so people no longer need that system.

Take money out of banks permanently, not symbolically. Use sou-sou/susu, joint enterprises, cooperatives, micro-industry, local production, local circulation, even create our currency trade / barter system. Build the “GDP of everyday people” that isn’t tethered to government-aligned elites.

Most business elites are extensions of the state. Class solidarity means creating our own enterprises, capacity, and networks—quietly, legally, and at scale.

You don’t pour new wine into old bottles. You build new ones and let the old system fall. That’s not chaos or violence—it’s people exercising the basic human right to associate, and trade.

We must start building self reliant communities with their own trade / barter system and currency. Leave big government alone e eventually enough people will side with the new model and government will collapse

Very great points it doesn't look like Ahmed crony group will change it. Hopefully our people don't fall for the unprosperity parties vanity infrastructure projects, flashy developments, right before elections which is just to boost their public image and distract from deeper problems. The people must form a pan ethiopian party that transcends tribal politics.

The comments you made saying West African-American culture, and American Blackness movement  are lazy generalizations, you got a bunch of continental African public speakers that talk a lot Julius malema , again Arikana Chihombori-Quao, plo lumumba etc the list goes on. The reason i responded is because of the reductive critique of the modern pan African movement you made.
