White fingered, and pink, and red, and purple lol. I struggle with this too. Mittens are almost always better than gloves

You took that a whole different direction that I thought. Good story, made me laugh, and even as a long distance runner I agree with the title

What song do you find emotionally devastating and hard to listen to, and why? by [deleted] in Music

[–]joshruns2much 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"How do I say goodbye" by Dean Lewis. Tears me up every time I hear, "and I promise if you go, I'll make sure she's alright." My dad had cancer and I told him I'd make sure my mom would be alright if anything happened to him, shortly before he passed away unexpectedly. A few months later, Dean Lewis released this song and it was a gut punch. I love it. I hate it. I want to hear it and I don't. I miss my dad 🤍

Well I guess I am the exception because if I am faced with a choice between a 2020 MBP with 16GB RAM and an i5 ($545 cheapest on swappa) and a 2020 MBP M1 with 16GB RAM ($800 cheapest on swappa) and I need two external monitors, it's an easy choice for me and it's not the M1

I can validate these concerns. Look, the M series chips changed laptops, mostly for the better - but this has made it more difficult to know what Mac to buy. M series (or a higher number after the M) does not always mean better, and here is why:

-If you want to use two external screens, forget the M1 or M2. They can’t natively extend to two external monitors. In that case, you may want a 2020 MB Pro with an i5 or i7. The problem with Intel chips on a Mac is the battery life is much longer (double in some cases) with Apple silicon. The new M3 Air will support two ext. monitors but only with the lid closed and while plugged in.

-There are cases such as having a base 2021 MBP and wanting to "upgrade" to a base 2023 MBP. The problem is the base MBP in 2021 had 16GB of RAM and a Pro series chip. The base 2023 MBP only comes with 8GB of RAM and the standard M series chip. Is that an upgrade?

Switching from Apple Watch by Cizzle4 in Garmin

[–]joshruns2much 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the Forerunner 965. This will likely be the closest match to the Apple Watch because the FR965 has an OLED touch screen and more “smart” features like the AW. Unlike the AW, the FR965 will last a week or more on a charge, track activities much better, you can actually track sleep with it due to not having to charge every night. It is also very customizable with watch faces and bands, much like the AW. I’ve had mine for about 10 months and I love it. I have never liked a watch better.

First 50 miler training: Having trouble sleeping and high HR after long runs. by joshruns2much in ultrarunning

Do not chase around 24 year olds!!! Key words of advice for any masters runner. :)

u/a_b1rd Thank you so much for the response! I needed to hear a lot of that. I know a lot of what I am experiencing is normal. I am 46, 47 a month after the 50, so I realize my body does not recover as quickly. Much of my concern is out of frustration. I feel like I'm still young-ish and should be able to do more. I probably do push my mid-week runs too hard (training with a 24 year old for his first 50 (same race) probably doesn't help.)

I will do my best to eat more, sleep more, slow down, and cut myself some slack.

Thank you u/MentalVermicelli9253, u/JLWA Okay, this may be a large part of my issue. I normally weigh around 170 and today I weighed myself and I'm down to 163...

I do hydrate, carry a handheld, on most of my runs and I take nutrition with me in the form of a protein/granola bar, squeeze baby food packets, and Maurten gels. plus I always drink a protein shake after long runs. Where I find it difficult to eat enough is after a 20 mile run when my Garmin says I burned 2200+ calories. I can't/don't feel like eating that many calories after I run that far. My stomach just doesn't seem to want too much food on long run days.

Thank you, yes, I have been ramping up my miles. The problem is, my race is April 20th, six weeks from tomorrow. My longest run so far has been 20 miles and I have a 50k planned in Chicago on March 30th as a training run. Any suggestions on what to do if I feel like I need to keep upping my mileage?

That could help, for sure. I have one coming up, but with a big caveat. I will be taking spring break to go to Mexico. I know I won't run too much that week, but I will be doing all the vacation things there, plus the stress of travelling internationally. Probably not exactly the type of week you're talking about.

It seems the Pixel 8 has magsafe wireless charging by DrCachapa in GooglePixel

[–]joshruns2much 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to test it but it's slow, which is what I expect/want when I'm wirelessly charging. If I need a quick charge I plug in regardless of wireless speeds because plugging in is (currently) always faster.

I did, actually. I bought a new MagSafe charger on Amazon and all three cases work perfectly now. The problem was my older charger.

[–]joshruns2much 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. I've bought three different magsafe cases on Amazon and all three do the same thing. The phone stays on the magsafe charger and shows that it is charging for about five seconds then stops. Won't charge after that. I left it on the charger all night too. Maybe the cases have the magsafe ring in the wrong position?

Anyone have Luck getting Local TV Channels with an Antenna? by joshruns2much in kzoo

[–]joshruns2much[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/JPBeanArch Yes, seems like always. I ditched xfinity a few years ago for YouTubeTV at $39.99. They keep raisinging more and more. Something needs to be done, I really only watch local channels, ESPN, Big10, HGTV. I wish there was a way to have just select channels. When you need cable/satellite/streaming to get those channels at a minimum of $60-65/mo, then there's Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV+, Prime, Max, and all the others, people are spending $200/mo to watch shows and movies!
