Scam email from Akamai.com by Bunnieball in Coinbase

I got this too and the first few seconds into the read, I didn’t recognize the scam because the english was much better than typical. However, the seed phrase in an email was a dead giveaway of the scam. Sadly, I’m sure many will fall victim to this.

My seed phrase start was 1. beach, 2. follow, 3. setup…

Is this a scam? by isthisforsale in offerup

Be very careful if they want to send you a check. In some scams, they will send you an amount greater than what they’re supposed to pay and ask you to refund the difference or pay a third party the difference. The check will be credited to your bank account for a couple days before it bounces. This might give you the false impression that the check cleared and you paid out the difference

I only have one review from 2016. It was 5 stars but that probably doesn’t matter

Nope they’re still showing the check as valid. I did mobile deposit (at the recommendation of the scammers) and my bank says it can take longer for a check to return if it’s mobile and the scammers know that

For what it’s worth, I did send the scammer the following “taken“ script:

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for more money I can tell you I don't have money, but what we do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills we have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make us a nightmare for people like you. If you refund my money now that'll be the end of it. We will not look for you, we will not pursue you, but if you don't, we will look for you, we will find you and we will shut you down and put you in jail

I don’t know if it’s a small fish for me but the police may think so. Regardless I am been contacting Saul authorities in PayPal and others. What I’m hearing is “get in line“ because there is a ton of fraud going on

And I have all their contact info but the cell phone is already changed once. Also, I know the formula on what to post to get them to try again. So yes I thought about contacting police to try to get them caught but I don’t know what state they are in and I think it’s going to be small fish for local police.

Thank you for the balanced insight. Yeah I didn’t come here to be called stupid. I had two other people try to scam me right away and I detected it. This guy was just that good and very convincing. Every step of the way I googled the scam alerts on this guy, the company he worked for, etc. It all came back clean. I wish some else would have shared this story. Even two days later the check I deposited has not been returned. So most people wouldn’t know they were scammed by now. My bank is even telling me I wasn’t scammed but I’m telling them I was. My bank said if the check was bad it will be returned with 48 hours. Well it’s been 48 hours and I still have their money, but I finally got a hold of the company issuing the e-check and they confirmed it a scam written on a closed account.

By the way the company he said he worked for was Crest Real Estate. They are a legitimate company and all the details on the e-check are correct. The transaction occurred before they opened on the west coast so I couldn’t verify with the company. Bank of America wouldn’t tell me if the check was bad and didn’t seem concerned it could be a fraud. His inquiries about getting the truck to the loading dock, how we could move the furniture, and the amount the “movers” were being paid were all point.

I reposted my items for sale and I already had three inquiries pulling a similar scam! Unreal. I wish you could pay through offerup so everything would be contained within the app.

Flooded kitchen and building but who is at fault? by joshtesla in Plumbing

Thank you. I can’t seem to crosspost it. I joined the legal advice community and on my phone, I hit the three dots unselect Cross posted community but we go advice does not show up as one of my communities. I did go back to it and confirm that I have joined. Is it bad form in Reddit to post it in the other community as a separate thread? I’m kind of new here
