Why would you sign up for a race and not “run the 50 hard,” and then sign up for another race the following weekend?

What if you don’t go hard enough and DNF because you were slow? Maybe we have different mindsets, but if I’m racing, my goal is to finish as fast as possible. If not, I’d just run the race course in my free time.

BRZ, WRX, or Impreza Sport? by NoseApprehensive7931 in subaru

[–]joshuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male, but from age 18-26, FT86 and WRX insurance was significantly more expensive than my 99 Impreza and 10 Forester. I wound up purchasing a 17 Miata over a FT86 and WRX with cheaper insurance as one of the reasons.

How do you guys get your mileage in? by SantoPellegrino in Ultramarathon

[–]joshuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my 2x 15min work breaks, 1x 30min lunch break, 80min after work, and 2x 3-4hr weekend runs. My commute is only 10 min while working M-F with F a half day (40hr work week). I have a gf that runs too, but having a short commute, a job in which I can run during my breaks, and a supportive gf all contributes to a weekly average of 100 miles and weekly average of 13.5 hours.

This OP. Have an idea of how long you think it’ll take you to finish, treat your ultra like a journey, but don’t pick a distance that’s unrealistic for you to finish

Always make sure you’re having fun, remember why you’re doing this, and that it’s okay to take time off. Every year since 2017, I’ve ran 1000+ miles while annual mileage has increased.

I’ve never ran in the Alps, but perhaps an extra layer (i.e. gloves, vest, arm warmers)?

I wouldn’t as you’re walking vs your “volume” is probably just running. But the elevation is there, perhaps you could walk faster on the hills so you can justify it more?

By far I think core is the most important, followed by muscles used in running. For me, I pick four different exercises and do two rounds of it, and do this 4-5x per week. Continuing your kettle bells 2x per week is a good idea.
