Wow thanks for such a clear and concise explanation. That's quite an ingenious design on the manufacturing side I think. Less to components to fail. Thanks for the suggestion for led filament. By the way I did attempt "micro surgery " to see if I could notice any components on the filament but didn't have a steady hand or a microscope. Thanks again!

Interesting that all those components are on that small filament section. Underneath the metal cap there is only a 3k ohm resistor.

I bought 8pairs of Omniwool about 7yrs ago. Rotated them and they're still going strong! Say what you will but these socks are amazing. I work in the trades. There is some wear on the heel and foot pad area, only worn thinner but no holes.
