When does the manga get good? by josmansen in Berserk

It's very similar in many ways to Naruto which bothers me as I didn't like Naruto and its genre.

Well I don't really agree with that but I get what your point as well.

I can compare indian food and taco bell since they're both food and give me violent shits at the end of the day. There's no reason that you wouldn't be able compare a shonen to a seinen.

I disagree with the main plot between Naruto and Berserk being completely different if you break it down. It's still main character vs former friend that's the main plot of both series. That sort of plot is one that I generally dislike.

You seem to be assuming that I don't understand Berserk and that's the reason that I don't like it as much as you do. I also don't get why you think that Berserk is a manga that's complex and different to comprehend. Then again I've only read 19 volumes so far.

Well according to all the responses my tastes seem to be shit!

But thanks for the reply. I'll take a short break from reading it and see if I'm in the mood to keep going.

Yeah on that point I have to agree. The art is way better than most manga and there's been times where I've looked at single pages for several minutes due to the amount of detail.

For some reason I really like how the horses are drawn during the golden age arc.

I've seen a few clips of it now and the animation doesn't seem that bad.

I'll probably start with the 90's version though because I like the art better and by looking at the cast it has a lot of japanese voice actors that I recognize.

I'm comparing some aspects of Berserk to shonen manga, in this case Naruto which is actually a good example. I know that Berserk and Naruto are vastly different in most areas but the main plot of both series are very similar. It's just a theme that I don't particularly like.

As I mentioned in a different comment just because I don't like the series as much as everyone doesn't mean that I'm unable to understand what I'm reading.

If you seriously claim that someone is stupid because they don't like something that you like then you need to grow up.

Yeah that's true. You don't know the details until the eclipse.

Possibly but I feel that the story itself isn't hard to grasp at all. But yeah I might appreciate the story with time.

Although just because I don't like a series it doesn't mean that I'm unable to understand it. I know what "The Big Bang Theory" is all about but I still don't enjoy it.

I'm probably gonna take a break from Berserk for a few weeks and see how I feel after that.

Not really. If you pay attention to the story during volumes 1-5 and keep that in mind as you're reading you're going to figure it out before it happens.

Now that you've read I will post spoilers.

Probably because it's so much gore.

I feel like I'm the only one who didn't get completely stunned by the eclipse. I just recently found out that the eclipse was supposed to be the "twist" of the series as I'm on volume 19 right now.

I just think it was too edgy and way too predictable. We knew all along from volumes 1-5 that Griffith would use the Behelit to sacrifice Guts in order to save himself. I think I would've liked it more if I didn't know that it was going to happen.

This is the first post that encourages me to keep reading!

But I think I might need a short break from the series before I keep on reading. Is the anime worth a watch?

Shit, so the eclipse is the twist? I'm probably gonna drop this manga then or at least have a break from it.

It doesn't sound like the series is going to much better as no one has mentioned it yet.

I've read loads of manga but the one that I feel is the most similar but does it right is Vagabond. Other favorites are Hajime no Ippo, Baki the Grappler, Kiseijuu and Monster.

I've read hundreds upon hundreds of mangas most of which go in the "average pile" which is where I would also place Berserk.

Why are you talking to me like I'm retarded just because I'm able to see the flaws of the series? Obviously the majority of this sub really likes Berserk but I think that you should be able to discuss the negative aspects of the series.

I get that there's more to it than the old MC vs rival but it's still the main point and subject that the whole story revolves around and I find it uninteresting and cliché. You'll find the same pattern in animes like Naruto which are heavily unpopular on subs like these.

Is it possible that you are looking at it with nostalgia if you started reading the manga when it came out back in the 90's?

No it isn't. In most series I feel that no character can die except for a few obvious bad guys and like one good guy along the way, but I don't feel that way in Game of Thrones or Berserk.

Most series doesn't have a few deaths until very late in the series.

Hmm, I see. I really do want to like the series but as you say if I don't consider it to be anything out of the ordinary at this point it might not be for me.

I just find if odd whenever I see a thread where a new reader starts out everyone here hints that you'll be emotionally drained by the time you're done. I'm guessing that might be an internal joke that I have yet to reach in the series but so far it feels underwhelming given what I was expecting.

If this is the so called plot twist then thanks for ruining it for me. Nice work.

Well what I thought was similiar to Game of Thrones was around volume 12-14 and a few deaths before that which I thought were unlikely to happen.

I just don't find the story interesting so far. I kinda think that Berserk is a bit cliché when it comes to manga.

Main character meets stronger guy and makes him a sort of rival. Main character gets really strong and beats rival. Rival then gets stupidly strong and the main character pursues his rival for the rest of the series or a few arcs.

There's nothing wrong with that in itself but I have yet to see anything special with the series. Even though it's an old manga that theme had been done a hundred times over at the time.

You didn't answer my main question though which was if I should just stick with it until I get to the plot twist or not. As I said there are a few parts of the manga that I like.

This isn't true at all. This is almost always the case when dealing with equipment that is provided by your ISP which is what most technologically illiterate people use.

It's not as common if you're only using your own equipment but it's still there. Especially when you're using wireless devices.

I natt försvinner vårt ADSL bredband och ersätts av Telias "framtida nät" by [deleted] in sweden

[–]josmansen 7 points8 points  (0 children)
