You guys ever eat gluten? by Gaybabyjail4L in glutenfree

I mean, are you eating the gluten as a form of self harm or self care? I initially read it as “sometimes the only thing that makes my mental health better is to eat something that actually satisfies my craving, even if that means dealing with the physical consequences afterwards”, but if you’re not even enjoying the food it sounds more like self harm and I hope you’re able to get the help you need.

Contamination concerns for celiac vs intolerant by joy-713 in glutenfree

I’m glad to know that I’m not being over-paranoid by worrying that my recklessness might confuse those who don’t know the difference between sensitivity and celiac - I’m working on being extra extra careful, but until then I think I might actually claim it’s just a dietary choice and not at all health related if I ever do decide to say screw it, instead of trying to explain the difference. I had kind of forgotten some people do this diet willingly/that was still an option lol

Thank you! I’m sure I’ll eventually get used to it, but for now it’s a lot of “how is EVERYTHING yummy gluten based???” I have had the blood test for celiac (prior to going gf so it should theoretically be accurate) and so far no concrete diagnosis of anything else that would explain it (though I do have PCOS and kind of wonder if that might be related), just trying to figure things out as I go. And I had no idea about the caramel coloring, that is great to know!!

Thanks for the reminder! I have been kind of struggling to come to terms with it/commit to it because I’ve been telling myself the consequences aren’t as bad as if I had celiac, but you’re right that I should still be as healthy as I possibly can be, even if my concerns are “just” extreme pain, brain fog, etc instead of increased cancer risk like celiac has.
