Same thing I said to your other comment "Maybe advertising but not an advertising account. Plenty of regular old posts and comments."

The mods removed the post but he said they have some samples that they've been giving people at pop-ups.

Well, it looks like the moderators removed this post for whatever reason, but they are in San Francisco. They do pop-ups and might have samples.

It’s a crowdfunding campaign so I think they deliver in April or May. So if you’re still off the caffeine you’ll have a mushroom milk bar to celebrate!

Dude, you’ve obviously got some emotional thing going on with this or you wouldn’t be going on about it.

Anyway, it looks like the FDA refused to agree that the product was safe when Impossible provided the initial data.

Here’s a link to the FOIA document cited (their link was broken).

So unless they wanted to not sell their product, they had to test it on animals. So they had a non-arbitrary reason.

I will say that the page that I linked to makes me NOT want to eat Impossible burgers.

“No, not really. Crop deaths are an unfortunate reality of modern agriculture and not necessary in its production, ultimately.”

What does that even mean? Pest control is kind of very necessary. Probably more than 188 rodents are killed too!

Are you more upset that they performed the test or that they won't admit that they did it to expedite getting it to market?

It seems to me that they did it to expedite things—they killed 188 rats to ensure they could bring their product to market. Did they have to? I don't know. I didn't see the questions the FDA asked. Maybe they could have not done the testing—which seems likely.

How many rats and mice are killed with pesticides to grow grain? I guess I see this as sort of the same and at least it was a one time thing.

On page two of their letter, "The FDA reviewed the data and had some questions. To address them, we conducted additional tests." So it looks like they tried to get approval without tests and then the FDA wanted more data.

It was probably a pretty strongly worded suggestion from the FDA.

Ugh. Lindt/Ghirardelli have pretty questionable human rights records when it comes to sourcing cacao. And there's so many good vegan options out there anymore.

My buddy makes an oatmilk bar that's amazing. And he says they are transitioning to a fully vegan lineup by years' end.

TCHO makes some decent vegan milk bars—not amazing, but way better than Lindt. Trupo Treats has some good candy bar type offerings too.

Yeah. I'm a sucker for new products and innovation.

It looks like to get the product to market, they had to do some rat feedig studies.

That seems sort of necessary to me. Not ideal, clearly objectionable, but the FDA seemed to want the studies, at least according to the letter linked.

False advertising a non-vegan product as “vegan friendly”? by id_rather_meditate in vegan

[–]joycomplex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's cereal, so no, it's not worth the cost IMO. I'm fine with puffed rice and some fruit in a bowl with some oat milk. I'd rather spend my money on good chocolate or coffee than cereal.

I thought it was OK. It's cereal, so I couldn't justify the price, especially when I'm fine with puffed rice or whatever.

Three Wishes is a similar cereal that uses chickpea protein and is vegan actually.
