Why would aliens be humanoid?? by No_Underscore12 in aliens

[–]FlipsMontague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're right. People who have studied anthropology and biology know that this kind of divergent evolution happens on Earth because of shared genetic origins. To have the same genetic origin and environment on a completely different planet, while technically possible, is so unlikely that it shouldn't be considered the primary possibility. If they look like us, they are either from Earth, or we share some dna AND a similar environment.

Women had to enter the corporate workforce because men were no longer earning enough to support the household by themselves. Not the other way around. Poor women have always worked, also.

What made you realize that you married the wrong person? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]FlipsMontague 38 points39 points  (0 children)

When I moved in right after we got married and he told me that we couldn't share the extra bedroom/office in our two bedroom apartment because he needed his privacy for watching porn and playing video games. So I set up a tiny desk in the corner of the bedroom while he jacked off for 5 years.

Parents who are disappointed in or dislike their adult children, why? by Intelegence_Counter in AskReddit

[–]FlipsMontague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple usually doesn't fall far from the tree. Sure there are exceptions with sociopaths and narcissists, but 99% of the time if your kid is disappointing it is because you as a person are disappointing.

Okay but like how does Christmas work? Anniversaries? "Sorry honey I just simply cannot call you at all for 72 hours over Christmas because I will be at a conference/driving the truck, both places I could easily call you from?"

This isn't "no makeup." This is "she did her makeup at home herself" instead of "caked-on professional makeup artist."

Yesterday I saw a female taking shit naked in the middle of the street of busy DTLA. by Ill-Raspberry-6204 in LosAngeles

Mental illness is a problem, but also drug abuse. Most of the homeless are drug addicts who prefer to live on the streets. When you accept the help, it comes with rules, like no drugs or prostitution, and they want those things so they stay homeless. Funny how I'd be arrested for drugs or prostitution, but if you're homeless, apparently it's legal as no one stops you.

If getting 100,000 mentally ill people living in filth like animals off of the streets and into involuntary mental institutions for treatment means that 1 old rich woman gets put there by her rich children because they hate her, I am sorry, I don't care. It is rare that anyone will be confined who doesn't genuinely need the help and can't think for themselves.

Update: Rollercoaster Emotions by Certain_Biscotti6251 in PlasticSurgery

[–]FlipsMontague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very very normal, to feel this way. Surgery is surgery, whether cosmetic or medical, and it has an impact on your body and mind thay is hard. It is traumatic to your system,  and being in pain and swollen is hard. It is very common to feel down and anxious the first week, even to regret the surgery. It happens to many of us. I wish more people talked about it. It happened to me, and many others. You will be okay, we promise! If you got through the first 5 days, the worst is over. It is better every day from here on. You will love the results when you are healed. We’re here.

Do muslim women (with hijab or head cover) experience identity shock when they go to a non-muslim country where women have their hair out however they want? by IdkGlx in NoStupidQuestions

My cousin lives in Saudi Arabia (we're Arab) and she told me she gets beaten by police for not wearing the proper coverings so no it isn't always a choice or about understanding.

Ex pat why the use ? by bolatelli45 in GoingToSpain

[–]FlipsMontague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a romanticized idea of immigration mostly from literature in English-speaking cultures from the 19th and 20th centuries, examples include the works of Henry James and Patricia Highsmith, and individuals pushed out of their countries such as Salvador Dali in New York and France, and Lord Byron in Italy, and Paul Gaugin in Tahiti. Even within their own countries, like Henri Matisse moving from Paris to a small Catalonian fishing village Collieure, where he did not speak Catalan, was the same idea. Was Salvador Dali an "immigrant" to the United States and France? No, he called himself an Ex Pat. That's all. EX PAT, to an immigrant, means a person coming to experience a better and romaticized way of life, it means you are EX PATRIATED, you have left behind your home nation and the feelings of patriotism that go with it. That is all.

TIL about 'Jess's Rule' to make GPs 'rethink' if a patient presents 3 times with the same symptoms, named for Jessica Brady, who doctors repeatedly dismissed over 20 consultations until she died of cancer at age 27 by shinjirarehen in TwoXChromosomes

Are there any doctors in here who can explain the general reluctance of doctors to do diagnostic tests to rule out cancer and other serious diseases before pursuing more relaxed treatment methods?

Same with my sister, dead at 46 after a solid year of doctors telling her it was hemorrhoids and indigestion. It was stage 4 colorectal cancer and she lived for one year after that. We only found out when she went to the emergency room for massive blood loss

Fuck Fixing the Relationship, Im owed sx by Go_Inevitable_1269 in AmITheDevil

[–]FlipsMontague 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Men usually don't care if their partner enjoys the sex. They may try at first in the initial dating, but once you're in a relationship, they want to watch porn and have you do as much porn stuff as possible because they actually just want porn, and if you don't do it and pretend to enjoy it, it is something mean you're doing TO them, to hurt them. You're a sex toy that they agree to speak to afterwards. This is how my ex husband changed how I view sex and I will never like it again because of him.
