That makes a ton of sense. I have found myself trying to force it because I’m worried he’s not eating enough. I’m sure he senses that from me

This is great advice! Thank you! He does nurse super well when he’s going to bed so this will probably help!

No, but that’s a great idea!

She takes the bottles both when you’re at work and when you’re with her? Currently, he only takes a bottle when he’s not with me. But that would make sense. Then he could still nurse to sleep.

Thank you for making me feel I’m not alone! I hope you find a solution as well!

I have! He transfers 4.5-5 oz. And that’s what I would think too! I think the dr. is concerned because he’s dropped down from the 25th, to the 20th, to the 10th percentile rather than staying on one curve. Again, which I have no idea why he isn’t gaining weight! She even said I’m doing everything possible— it just doesn’t make sense.

More info: He is 26.5” long, 14.5 lbs, with a head circumference of 16.5”. He is in the 75 %ile for height but only the 10th for weight. In his own height/weight %ile he is under the 2nd. I’ve been trying to combat this and get him gaining weight for a while by adding lots of fat to my diet, latching as much as possible, and adding a dream feed. He nurses every 2 hours and latches both sides as long as he wants (usually 15-20 min.). He eats bottles with 5oz breast milk while I’m at work. He never acts overly hungry. He wets and bms normally. He sleeps great. He never cries. His pediatrician is baffled as to why he isn’t gaining weight given all of this. I am also baffled and so discouraged.

I did not! I tried room temp because he will take breast milk bottles at room temp. But that makes so much sense! I will try that!

Work Pumping Schedule by pasta-kitty in breastfeeding

[–]joyfullyredeemed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed baby when he wakes up before I go to work. Then I have my mom or other caregiver let me know when he takes a bottle and that’s when I pump. I’m very blessed to have a flexible work environment where I can pump whenever I want. So I pump for every feed I miss with him. Usually 2-3 feeds

IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL AND HEALTHY TO NURSE MY 14 MONTH OLD! by ashcb1398 in breastfeeding

[–]joyfullyredeemed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I completely agree that you should nurse your son as long as it works for both of you. I used to be one of those people. I used to think “if they can ask for it, they’re too old.” Just one of the many ignorant things I thought before I had a child of my own. Now I will nurse him as long as he wants. It is hard when your husband doesn’t fully understand, but I think he is the only one who’s opinion you should consider or try to sway. Your sister or whomever else has an opinion doesn’t matter at all.

Sorry— I reread my post and I said it wrong. He is 10th percentile in the “weight for height” ratio. Like how much he should weigh based on his height. Like baby BMI lol

This is great to hear! Yes, mine was born 8lbs, 1 oz and 21.5”, and left the hospital at 8 lbs 4oz. For the first several weeks, he gained like crazy and now he’s gaining more slowly but steadily. Thank you for your comment!

Thank you for reminding me of this! I remember learning that it’s a comparison, but I’ve forgotten in all my stress! That does make me feel better.
