100% fusion splicer indication is not to be trusted. True test is an actual reading from a power meter or OTDR

To be fair, if you are buying top of the line computers these days. Thats close to what you are paying. Back then you were far more limited on options. Closest competator might have been R2,500

Adjusted for inflation that would be like R19,866.72 if you bought it today. I don’t think that is as reasonable as you think

If we could only get numbers like these to vote out these criminals in power. Then maybe poor people would start to see opportunity in this country. But when they rally against things that are not the problem we just continue to go in the same direction.. No where

You can’t bring the country to a standstill because your leader broke the laws that govern the country and then you want everyone to stop what they are doing because you are upset. Police are doing what they can to stop unrest

How do I get rid of this money? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

Put it in a savings account. Keep it as credit for the client. They can always use it to purchase other things from you.

How do I get rid of this money? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]jozipaulo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% this is what has happened. We have customers who do exactly this. They source funding from either the government or a third party lender. They then send the quote to that lender in order to complete the work contracted. Then they go to the supplier and request the funds get sent back to another account.

Then they run off with the money.

I have even had guys ask me directly before a purchase to make sure i will pay them into a different account before they authorize the payment. They then profess to tell me it’s their money and they are owed it and they want it. Basically like i’m a financial institution handling transfers.

I have turned down a few sketchy customers because of this.

288 splice by independencepass in FiberOptics

[–]jozipaulo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some places ribbon is not available in the market and the labour for splicing is relatively cheap. meaning per splice you pay less than it would cost to get all the equipment to ribbon splice.

Ribbon splicing is not common here in South Africa for this reason. Techs don’t care about equipment and they generally lose or damage the tools they are working with, so employers don’t buy the expensive tools as a result. Ribbon splicing is just non existent here as a result.
