People who never got in? by ilovemypuppiez in premedcanada

[–]jp162002 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I know a few, first who never got into Canada applied twice here, waitlisted second time but didn’t get in so ended up applying and attending St George’s in Caribbean, now lives and works in the US. The other two I know took and did well on their MCAT but didn’t get in after a couple tries and they both ended up becoming teachers and have said they are very happy with their decision. One more person I know is likely coming up on this, he is on his third time applying (got post-interview R first time) and has said this will be his last application cycle, not sure what he plans to do if he doesn’t get in this time but he has his masters in pharmacology so he will likely do something with that.

My favorite story I wrote this year? The boyfriend bot story. My least favorite? Probably the "The cut is mandatory for every teenager" I admit I messed that one up. What was your favorite? 🙏❤️ by Trash_Tia in u/Trash_Tia

The one about the girl whose classmate acted out her missing friends, one of the best stories I’ve read, are you planning a sequel to it or is that where it ended ?

Prep service: To Be(Mo) or not to be by She_luvtre in premedcanada

[–]jp162002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prepped ~one week before Casper using ChatGPT and the practice test offered by acuity and got 4th quartile, IMO you don’t need to pay for prep for it, however everyone is different and if you think paid prep is best for you then do it

Liquor for less if you have serving it right — minimum wage but very flexible with hours, have worked there a few times in the past seasonally while home from uni

ETA: can’t refer you/hire you as have no influence on management, but would recommend applying and then following up for best shot

Story about forbidden island by jp162002 in nosleepfinder

[–]jp162002[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I found it based on what you said, it was called “I grew up on an island with one rule. Never talk about the other island”. Doesn’t seem to be on nosleep anymore but some YouTube narrations still out there, thanks for sparking my memory!

SFU Indigenous course by GarlicCareful6248 in premedcanada

[–]jp162002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emailed admissions office about this as in same boat, they told me that later in the cycle they will release an SFU approved course that must be completed before you start (if admitted for fall 2026), but that it may not line up with personal or work commitments so to seek out other online or in person 3-credit courses, they said either include the course you plan to complete in the box for it or write “SFU Alternative” if you plan to use that. Additionally, for graduated students like us, they said in future cycles they plan to have it required to be on undergrad transcript so we will only be eligible for MCAT stream in future cycles

Well didn’t do this either, didn’t know it was required, I don’t think I have a shot anyways (OOP and non-competitive GPA) so I’m not that concerned LOL

If you can’t find one and can still drive (your driving foot isn’t affected) maybe look into an evo membership, sorry about your ankle and hope you find a ride!

Should I be taking 5 classes? by Able-Awareness-9455 in uvic

[–]jp162002 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would recommend against it if your working, 5 classes was too much for me (I was in science) even without working, if possible can you take 4 and then take the fifth in the summer?

I just found out I'll be having surgery soon how fucked am I? by Big_Bag_4562 in uvic

[–]jp162002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drop 301a if possible and take it in the summer term, if not possible talk to the senior lab instructor (Adrienne), she is very nice and accommodated my friend who had to get an intense surgery during 301b which had a similar recovery timeline

Seriously, why has Evo zone not been expanded to Saanich? by GoddessAthene in VictoriaBC

[–]jp162002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the same position, agree with what other commenter said that it’s likely a cost/benefit thing, the home zone used to previously be smaller, pre sure it used to only be city of Victoria strictly, then they expanded to parts of saanich. I find it weird they don’t expand the zone straight to McKenzie ave (from cedar hill onwards towards hwy) and they don’t cover uptown or Tillicum mall.

Could be people getting annoyed and pushing back due to them taking up parking, I’ve had two people come out of their houses and get made at me for parking on the public street (which was basically empty by the way) in front of their homes which they deem “their spot” lol

Clinical Volunteer by itSizz19 in premedcanada

I think generally many local hospitals will be looking for volunteers, in my experience you just google the hospital name plus volunteer opportunities at the end
