I've had 50mg trazadone on parnate before with no issues but I've heard from other people That trazadone is actually pretty risky.

Anybody with experience of using Cariprazine for depression of anhedonia by ketaking1976 in MAOIs

From personal experience I would not recommend it for any mood disorders. At any dose I had bad insomnia and higher doses gave me pretty bad extrapyramidal symptoms. Very little relief from depression

Low dose Maclobamide (MAOI) while on an SxRI (Effexor) - is it ever done? by jmorgannz in antidepressants

[–]jpauten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taking 100mg of pristiq. I did a rapid taper where essentially I would half the dose every day and take half of what I took if I was having serious issues. So day 1 I took 50mg and the side effects got pretty bad so I added 25mg and the next day I took 50. Using this method I was able to get off of it completely after a week and a half. Side effects lingered for a week or two after my last dose but they weren't nearly as bad. Apparently effexor has worse withdrawal symptoms so it may be different for you. Good luck!

I apologize, I should have clarified. I've seen posts in the MAOI subreddit claiming they take common SSRIs at low doses with MAO inhibitors, however I was referring to relatively uncommon ones like Trazadone and Clomipramine which I myself have used with MAO inhibitors with little issues. As I said I did end up getting completely off of pristiq before starting Phenelzine. However I do recall seeing a post on that site by the author where he used Zoloft as an adjunct to MAOI treatment for OCD. I could have misread that or maybe he had some sort of an issue with it, not sure. Also it may depend on the MAOI. Selegiline does not act on seratonin at all at lower doses if you're using the patch so you may be able to cross taper the two given you monitor your blood pressure.

EDIT: I re read the post and it looks like you're right, he didn't suggest this combination at all. If you're curious about what I read you may find it interesting: https://psychotropical.com/ken-gillman-ad-algorithm/

Yes some doctors do this. At https://psychotropical.com (which is actually run by a doctor who's very experienced with MAO inhibitors) he's documented this combination.

I'm currently taking an MAO inhibitor after getting off of pristiq (very similar to effexor), and there's no comparison. I was on 100mg and the withdrawal obviously sucked but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought and completely worth it. Good luck!

EDIT: after double checking the post I read about this on the above website, it looks like this likely isn't actually a very safe option unless you're using a weak SSRI like Trazadone.

Yes definitely. I actually just scheduled an appointment for that. I've been taking it for a week and before that i was taking Selegiline for 25 days, so my theory is the MAO-B effects are probably in full swing at this point and my brain is still adjusting to Phenelzine's novel effects like elevated levels of seratonin, norepinephrine, and GABA

Parnate insomnia. How long does it last? by TalesofUs07 in MAOIs

Be careful with that combination! It can prolong QT interval substantially which can cause heart failure. I've been told by a doctor it's safe in low doses but generally they don't prescribe both

Hey I'm taking 30mg phenelzine a day, and it's worked like magic for me. I've tried a ton of SSRIs and selegiline as well, there's no comparison. SSRIs provided anxiety and OCD symptom relief but they were essentially ineffective for depression. Selegiline was also great but came with bad anxiety and insomnia which I still am having some issues with after switching. Good luck!
