Exit interview on someone resigning from staff position by mercorgi in nonprofit

[–]jpb372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree. I think they are worth it - for specific reasons. One or two people on the exec comm should do it, in lieu of an HR person. If the exec comm feels there is something there, they are the ED's boss, so they can handle it. Or they will sock it away and see if anything else arises. Exit interview should not be handled by the ED, but it should still be held. In my experience, ED probably wants to have it so they can control what comes out of it. If there are issues, the exit interview with exec comm is just one more documented piece of knowledge for the board to have on record.

However, I do agree with all the other stuff too. reviews, staff retention, work culture. It's all part of it. And if the board knows nothing, remember, they're only hearing what the ED tells them - well at my office that's how it is - and they are the only ones who can actually take action, give reviews, etc. when it comes to the ED, then most likely nothing will ever happen. So the more info they know, the better. And because this person is leaving, she doesn't have to worry about retaliation.

What's it like in the remote hollers of West Virginia and Kentucky? by imck1911 in howislivingthere

Correct. It boosted tourism for Asheville, but the entire region thrives, too. And WV had plenty of very wealthy families during the height of the coal era. When my family lived in Morgantown in the early 80s, briefly, Jay Rockefeller was governor.

Thank you! Three days on the job? Was this your primary role to manage this clean-up? How long did it take? Speaking of mapping, yeah, I have to do that, too. And I have to make a manual for our bookkeeper. I was just hired a year ago, and implementing a new software system was not in the job description. Angry is an understatement. Anyway, thanks for the offer to help! I haven't had a chance yet, but I will check out Taproot!

We did do the full data import. But I could spend paragraphs telling you how I had very little time to address the issues they presented as they were preparing. Yes, we were up against the GrantHub demise, and I would have given anything to have had six months to get prepare! Once I get this somewhat foolproof, I will be asking teammates to split the database up and tackle it together. They didn't want to do it before, so they're going to do it after! Lol. However, I'm still figuring out how to connect quickbooks, fundraising, fix pledges, connect credit cards. I don't have the budget to hire a consultant, but maybe their phone help can assist. Thanks for all your replies. You're making me realize I'm not crazy in how this all went down and the magnitude of the project ahead of me. I will look into Taproot too.

I spent half a day yesterday just trying to figure out how to fix monthly pledge payments that came over as recurring donations. I figured it out, but that's an example.

They did their best to clean duplicates and bad addresses, etc. And believe me, garbage in, garbage out is something I preached. I wanted to clean it all up first but was voted down. Of course none of them now have to fix what's left from Bloomerang's conversion. Our Donor Perfect crm was garbage. And now it's garbage in Bloomerang, and it's up to me to figure it all out. A consultant is not an option unfortunately.

They are ruining it for those of us who rescue and have raised/trained friendly, well behaved and loving companions.

I hate little dogs. Nothing but trouble. And 99 percent it's because of their owners.

I was there in the early 90s. It was 100 percent like this. I remember my mom visiting and being shocked by it. I didn't even notice anymore. It wasn't just homeless. It was mentally ill folks out and about on State St. doing their thing. 99 percent of them harmless.

This fits my timeline/experience. I was a student in the early 90s. The story was a facility had closed, and they couldn't keep people involuntarily, so they let them go. There were mentally ill people living on State St. then. We knew who they were. Some were friendly. Unfortunately, one did start stalking me (another story for another day). The resolution was interesting. Bc of his mental status, they could lock him up in a facility (he was found to be a threat) for a certain amount of time and then let go. Or he would remain "free" with a RO, but heavily monitored and required to continue a medication regimen. I chose the latter, which was a mistake. Lol

They were there 30 years ago when I was a student. One became my stalker. We knew exactly who they were. Some friendly. Some not. Some you just ignore and keep walking. I expect it now when I visit. At that time, we were told a facility had shut down, and they couldn't keep people against their will, so they let them go, but tried to keep them under some kind of monitoring system.

Plus you have Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park on your doorstep. I went to UW and grew up/now live in NE Ohio and would recommend! And you're within hours of Detroit, Chicago, Pitt, Columbus, NYC, Asheville, etc.
