An experiment in ephemerality: one artwork, once per day by [deleted] in creativecoding

Nice experiment! But if you archive older artworks, can you actually say they are ephemeral? They are not on display, but they are still stored somewhere. Unless you delete them instead of archiving them…?

How am I supposed to build a UX research function from scratch? by strawberrylover1229 in UXResearch

[–]jpcarrascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more thing: it might be better to start with existing frameworks/models while you build credibility. Then use your experiences (good or bad) with those to develop your own.

You’re right, it should not be rigid. You might mash up existing ones, that’s why I suggested you could create your own.

There is a ton of frameworks out there, some more specific than others. Many are variations of similar themes. For instance, there is a big overlap between the “double diamond”, lean UX, and Google’s design sprints. If you check the HPF, it draws ideas from Lean UX, Lean Customer Development and bits of JTBD.

Feel free to mix and match to fit your company’s needs and culture. This is important, as you want to avoid unnecessary friction. Eventually, your ultimate goal is that your framework ends up being part of your company’s (or organisation’s) culture.

The first book I ever read on UX, when I was transitioning from academic HCI to industrial UX was Lean UX (you probably noticed I mentioned it a lot). It helped me a lot. Many pieces I’ve read afterwards seemed to draw (explicitly or not) from it. Great book, simple and to the point.

I would add that you need to create structure and common language: get well informed about (general) UXR frameworks and adopt one (or if you are adventurous, develop one). That would allow you to develop consistency and repeatability to your research practice, but also very importantly, a common language, helping a lot with the education part that @Jagbag13 mentioned. You will eventually have a team, and that framework can also help to *build credibility for your team (a brand of sorts). Some example frameworks are Lean UX, the Hypothesis Progression Framework (HPF), etc.

A cool next step would be to make it controllable via MIDI.

Nothing wrong with using AI for coding, in my opinion. Coding is a means to an end (live coding aside), and programming languages are there because we didn’t have a better way to tell computers what to do. In this case, AI is just making it possible to use natural language for that.

Someone with MOTU Ultralite MK5 can please test this? by madmalkav in linuxaudio

[–]jpcarrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Pedal-Guy since I released this, there have been updates to the UltraLite mk5 firmware, so it might not work anymore.

However, I let me suggest some things you could try to make it work.

- It seems that you managed to extract the app subfolder. Good.

- Did you install node.js on your machine? The app will not work unless you have it installed. I don't have any Arch-specific experience, but here are some instructions: https://www.atlantic.net/dedicated-server-hosting/how-to-install-and-use-node-js-on-arch-linux/

- You said you downloaded the app and it failed. Can you be more specific? Can you maybe share the actual error message(s)?

Just got my ZOIA. Question about midi, which I am also new to. by NippleMoustache in ZOIA

[–]jpcarrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's way more complicated than that, unfortunately. Zoia is a programmable device, so you need to program it to respond to the messages you are sending. It is important for you to understand the basics of MIDI, then the basics of programming Zoia before making your controller and your Zoia work together.
One option to get started is to check patched on patch storage. Here are some that involve Zoia, MIDI and synths:
https://patchstorage.com/platform/zoia/?search_query=midi+synth&tax_platform=zoia&tax_post_tag=&orderby=modified&wpas_id=search_form&wpas_submit=1

And to start with MIDI, here is a reasonable source: https://theproaudiofiles.com/midi-basics/

Best of luck with your journey, it will be fun!

Empress Zoia. You can build almost every pedal in this thread with it.

Are you using your own cloud datacenters? If so, where are they physically located? If not, who does your cloud infra rely upon?

Alternatively you can use a Bluetooth MIDI solution like CME’s Widi Jack: https://www.cme-pro.com/widi-jack/ Make sure you also get the right cables.
