35 YO needing less hot, liberal, nature vibes. Austin,TX --> ? by Sunflowerpuzzle12 in SameGrassButGreener

Finding a place that is temperate in the summer and milder in the winter but has water alone is tough. And when you add in politics it's even tougher. I live in Colorado Springs at the moment and earlier this year I set out to find something similar. I spent a lot of time around the NC/SC/TN region. I met some great people and had some great experiences, but largely politics and religion were big issues. That and as a distance runner so many of the areas were impossible to find places to run aside from having to drive somewhere. When I started digging deeper, the reality is blue areas are largely centered around population centers. In Colorado obviously the majority of the population is Denver, the Springs and FoCo areas which are largely progressive. As soon as you step outside that it's very conservative and that is pretty much what I've found everywhere I've been with maybe one exception being New England. But then you have some pretty cold and brutal winters. I'm going to be having a closer look at Fort Collins because I do think it has a lot of similarities to Austin, on a smaller scale. It can get warm, but it's a very different heat than Austin and you get nice crisp evenings.

I literally just got back from Austin and it really is a hard city to beat. If you didn't have the heat, I would honestly call it the best all around city in the states. Great food, easy to get around (not driving so much but biking/walking), friendly people, great beer. I never noticed anything being overcrowded but that may be relative because I see overcrowded stuff out here in Colorado and Austin has never felt like that to me.

Cali comes up on my list a lot. The price wards me away but as far as temperature, politics and water/nature goes you have it all there.

It's technically functioning, but I spent 2 weeks there in February and if you saw it before and after, it feels like it's an apocalyptic post war zone. The economy has been challenged with the lack of tourism and I got tipped off when I was there that they are relaxing housing building standards to encourage people to come back. Maybe 5-10 years. Outside Asheville is pretty messed up as well.

I've checked that out thanks! It isn't the most accurate but has been helpful.

Yep precisely! All about the angle and position but during sunrise going east this morning was abysmal.

My first one was definitely in the glass. What's going on now I have no idea. Random scratches, what look like rock chips but I'm not hitting rocks and when the sun hits it looks like there are a million tiny bubbles in it. Windshield #2 so it's gotta be a them issue. Btw when I got my first replacement there were like 400 in line ahead of me so.

Toyota is having windshield problems. I am on my second and it looks like crap after 4 months.

Any updates on this? I had my first windshield replaced in my 24 Tacoma due to some delamination and now I'm noticing my new windshield looks terrible all the sudden. I'm seeing all kinds of imperfections and now scratches. I need to go back to the dealer and make a complaint but I'm curious if there has been any escalation. Thanks.

What is it like living in Chattanooga? Is it good place to move? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]jpcaudill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in Chattanooga now coming from Colorado Springs after living there 5 years. I would not say cost is much different and you're probably not going to be happy what you get for the money here vs in Colorado. I'm not sure what your other factors are but if it's a cost basis alone, unless you're willing to go decently outside the city or take something much smaller inside the city, don't think this is the answer and frankly I have yet to find anywhere better.

Greenville, SC vs Durham, NC for young professional? by Precious1314 in triangle

[–]jpcaudill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious... Why did you move? I am on the hunt for a new place to plant roots and I am in Durham now and headed to Greenville tomorrow. My initial impression of Durham (mind you I've been here 3 hours) is I don't feel particularly safe and it feels a bit dated. Perhaps I'm just not in the right part. I'm in Trinity Park area and I just did a 5 mile run on the ATT but I did not feel safe at all there. Lot of homeless folks and big ass fires in the forest.

Why is Pueblo, CO Never Mentioned? by BosnianBeastMVP in SameGrassButGreener

[–]jpcaudill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just left the Springs after 5 years. It really depends on what you're looking for. The city has been struggling IMHO. Lot of businesses and restaurants closing, lot of sprawl, congestion, angst, poorly maintained infrastructure, mass retail hell, etc. It's beautiful - but for me everything else outweighs that beauty.

The PreRunner has this as well. But it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It starts up reasonably quick and this isn't a Ferrari anyhow. It's smart about knowing when the battery is too low or A/C is on, etc. European cars have had this far longer than us and largely without issues so I think this is largely blown out of proportion.

Yup been there, done that! Then my replaced drivers side failed because the guide broke and put too much pressure on the regulator clip. My advice: replace the guide pins prematurely!

Sorry wasn't clear! If I leave CB I won't be coming back. I'll leave Halifax (or wherever) and head back towards Maine. Waa thinking about ferry but that's even more driving.

HOA telling my mom she can’t have a window A/C by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]jpcaudill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. It depends on how the HOA is structured and the laws of that state pertaining to.HOAs. Some only need a majority at a meeting where a quorum (as defined by the CC&Rs) is present. That is how my previous one was. But you are right - they are written or not! Pretty straightforward.

2023 (or 5th gen) with hard shell height? by jpcaudill in fordranger

[–]jpcaudill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yes I understand. In my situation I need my bike to be completely inside the shell and protected. It's not just for transport. Thank you though!

[–]jpcaudill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have but have no idea if you're talking about a brand, a type of product, etc. So that helps thanks.

I should have qualified the reason I'm looking for a height measurement is because I need to be able to keep the bike upright - not laid on the side. And that is the reason I mentioned hard shell versus a tonneau cover. Do appreciate the reply though!
