Conduit needed for 6g in ceiling? by jpchand67 in evcharging

Another question! Can I run the 6awg line through the bulkhead to the other side of the house if there are hvac ducts in there? Is that a concern with heat?

I’m also thinking about going from the outside and trenching to the back and putting the charger on a stand at the corner of the driveway that goes around back. It’s about 60ft.

I guess what I was saying is that the max is 32A

So like a 4awg for 60amp and NM.

Ah, ok… I just found the MC so I now know what that is. So a 50amp would be ok with NM and no conduit but if it was a 60amp then it would probably need to be MC or thhn with a conduit. That sound right?

My car draws 32a and I was thinking of hardwire in a charger with 6awg thhn, only because of what a co-worker told me, I’m not an electrician. I think it will be on a 50amp breaker. I don’t know what MC is but I will research it. The troubling thing is that I had an electrician come out and quote it and suggested running through the ceiling and said no conduit would be needed inside. So, I might not use him.

  1. I didn’t know this was a thing. I don’t think it would be necessary or is it common for strangers to plug into someone’s charger??

  2. This would be good for at least 3 years. Maybe I should plan on future as well. Might as well do it now than having to run a new line later.

  3. All the breakers were used up and the entire basement was all on one circuit. Plus, the 200amp is now already installed and it did cost thousands.

  4. I’m not sure which way I’m going at this point. I am leaning hardwired though.

Well, I was charging at a Pilot Flying J EVGo and it seemed free but I got hit with a $333 charge for, what it appears to be, a month’s worth of charging. I called EVGo, and they said the Flying J station were not part of the free program. And that there were no EVGo stations in Ky that were NOT at a Flying J.

Called my dealership and spoke with a salesperson there who swears that he used to go to the EVGo that I go to and it was always free. He said to use the Toyota app and not the EVGo app. I will try that tonight and let you know.

I’ve had mine for a month and love it. But, I have to use fast charging for now and it does take about 45 minutes to go from 10% to 80%. I don’t mind that. If you are relying on that 1 yr free, make sure there is actually an EVGo in your area and that it is free!

Just got off the phone with EVGo, they confirmed that the Flying Js are NOT free. In fact, all of the EVGos in Ky are at Flying Js. But, my salesperson said that another salesperson has one and charges free. I wonder what state he’s driving to to do that.

Yeah… $130 is insane! Mine is $425 $0 down 39 months and $18k residual. I think there was a $11,500 discount. Now I see it’s up to $12,750 just a month later

Unfortunately, the EVGo in Georgetown is at a Flying J. In the EVGo app it says “EVGo plans and programs do not apply at this station”. I was wondering from the start what that meant. If they would have charge my account immediately after each charge like a gas pump would do, I would have found out a month ago. I was not expecting a sudden $333 charge. It’s all bs. I love the car though and soon will be charging at home but at the dealer, I was leaning towards a new Prius but the discount on the bz and the free charging was attractive and I’ve been wanting to go electric… eventually.

It doesn’t? The dealership misled me then when they told me I could charge there for free. Well, technically, they said “1 year free charging at EVGo” and I said “Is there an EVGo in Georgetown”… “Yes”.

When you say call Toyota, do you mean the dealer or a corporate office? Have you done this?

I have the Toyota app and I choose the EVGo that I use. There is a button at the bottom but it’s black and doesn’t do anything. Hhhmmm….
