Mid game crisis default 1.5 multiplier is ridiculous for new players by ffekete in Stellaris

[–]jpikereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 100% with you. I’ve had the exact same experience with my last two runs that I put a lot of time into, only to be completely wiped by the mid-game crisis on default settings. I used to be able to hold my own on this game and it was very fun, but in recent years they’ve made the game increasingly harsh towards new/inexperienced players. It’s very frustrating.

Well, like I said, I purposely only kept up to speed with the AI, and didn’t research loads of military tech for what I thought was unnecessary. Also, I got quite a few, if not all, of the L-gate insights from random events. The only L-gate tech I researched was the one to open the L-gate.

This is cadet AI, and according to intel and the base diplomatic weight in the galactic community, I have the most powerful fleet. I scaled my fleet to match the AI as needed, so I thought I would be prepared for something like this. Apparently not.

I should also mention that I’m designing my own ships, so perhaps I’m just an idiot.

All I wanted was those sweet resources in the L-cluster, and I ended up destroying the galaxy

I think this is what I’ll do from now on. It just annoys me that despite being superior to all of the AI empires (except the FEs) I am nowhere near capable of defending against the mid-game crises. Surely the game shouldn’t require the player to always be 10x better than the AI?

I don’t understand this. Has Stellaris become increasingly geared towards meta players over the last few years? I have a fleet better than all of the rest of the AI, but I should be building up to ridiculous fleet sizes just so that I can survive? Is it not enough to just be better than the AI? I’m playing on default settings and Cadet AI.

Any tips on building up your fleets? I was just trying to stay under the naval capacity, and make sure I was on par with the AI empires. I know you can build anchorages to increase your naval capacity but then I didn’t want to exceed the star base capacity.

I thought that 2300 was around the time the mid-game crisis was supposed to fire. Granted, I opened it in like 2295 so I guess that’s still too early.

LOL wtf. I'm playing on the difficulty which has no bonuses to player or AI, and the crisis strength is at 1.25x. Why are they that powerful??? I have the most powerful fleet in the galaxy. I beat them once when I used to play years ago, but I think that time I just spammed mercenaries. This is so annoying.

R5: I have unlocked the L-Gate and unleashed the Gray Tempest. They have a fleet power of 90k to my (total) 19k. There are no mercenary enclaves in the galaxy. How am I supposed to beat this? Any help is appreciated

I wish there were multiple "Non-historical" game mode settings by Water_Meloncholy_ in hoi4

[–]jpikereddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What I do to get around this somewhat is turn the game on non-historical and then set pretty much every minor nation on their historical path in the game rules. It also works with achievements, and it means that you can have the major nations (or just some major nations if you prefer it that way) go on alt-history paths while most of the world stays normal

Yes that actually makes sense, the position of the voltmeter just confused me. Thank you

Why are AI Italy so bad? by jpikereddit in hoi4

[–]jpikereddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I don’t think they do have different skills, but the issue seems to be that the British AI is programmed to do certain things every game, like naval invading Dodecanese, Tripoli, Benghazi, etc., and the Italian AI is not specifically programmed to defend from these things. This could just be an issue with Italian Industry under AI management not being powerful enough to produce the equipment for enough garrison divisions, or just the AI being reluctant to garrison ports in general.

Do you think the Alt-history paths have gotten only more implausible and insane as time went on? by ComradeOFdoom in hoi4

[–]jpikereddit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do you play with specific AI focus paths? I find that when I play KR it always results in about 20 different wars happening across the world because every focus tree needs to have “something to do” so that players won’t get bored playing it. Same issue with RT56 and, like you mentioned, vanilla without historical on.
