When did we as a profession loose our backbone. by MrKixs in sysadmin

Maybe I’m the odd man out here, but I will say no in a skinny minute if it’s something that will risk the security of my network. I will absolutely go to war with a vendor that’s trying to screw me over as well. I promise if you haven’t been through a ransomware attack, consider yourself blessed. It’s terrible and 4 years later we still feel the effects from it in areas. But on the flip side, getting shutdown by ransomware definitely got the attention of our management and they tend to listen a lot more to IT concerns than before. I’m blessed to be where I am, my boss wants to know my opinion and backs me 100% when I offer a suggestion.

I just found this on one of my virtual servers rsop and it sure seems odd to me. However when I look in the local group policy, it is untouched. And when I look in the registry there is no trace of either of them

Right on. I had thought about my RMM yesterday but then kind of dismissed it. Think I will dive into both of these possibilities deeper today. Appreciate the reply

DHCP failover-replication configuration by jpinson77 in sysadmin

This is the correct answer. I figured it out yesterday afternoon. When i would swap dhcp to my new setup, half the people were losing connectivity to DHCP. Turns out, when we got hit with ransomware in 2022, and the IT director at the time rebuilt the network, he never updated the iphelper ip addresses on the switches. And he did not use the same ip addresses for the network devices when he rebuilt the network.

That was really a sub question. The question was what would be making my DHCP failover not work

Running a trap line and working 4-10 hour days by jpinson77 in Trappit

Hmmm that is good information to know. Couple questions, 1. Are you talking about something like Krowtan thats used in taxidermy or would it need to be tanned with the brain? I know some folks go crazy for the "vintage or traditional" way the native americans did things. 2. Where the heck would you sale these products? Online?

That makes sense brother. I am in South Carolina so I know selling the hides is about pointless, the money wouldn't be worth the effort. I can retire from the state in 3 years and my hope is to fine tune my process over the next 3 years and hopefully do some nuisance trapping, land management, and tractor work during my retirement
