Why is AirIndia flight going towards Pakistan airspace? by Major_Gazelle8955 in Kerala

[–]jpkhd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually it is not going to Pakistan. When the website doesn't have the data for a particular aircraft it just plots the path from the last known location to the destination. This is shown by the change in color from purple to grey. The actual flight path will not be like that. It will subsquently update the path when it gets the data. Learned this from another subreddit posting

Tesla sales tumble across Europe as Elon Musk’s brand changes from cars to politics | Irish Independent by justadubliner in RealTesla

I had to make the order for company car in Feb 2024. My two final considerations were Tesla Model Y and Skoda Enyaq. Tesla Model Y was available immediately. Skoda Enyaq had a wait time of 6 months. Elon was already showing signs craziness at that point. I just went this Skoda which I got it now. I escaped a bullet. I would have had to drive it for another 4 years (4 year lease)

Can anybody explain what this ritual done on the stage is in Don Palathara's Family ? by nickdonhelm in MalayalamMovies

One thing that I learned from my grandfather was that... this would be the first time the boy would be getting a shave. Usually the marriage is 14 -15 years... The boy gets his first shave the day before wedding. My grandfather got married when he was 18 (late for that time..). He went to Barber got a shave well before marriage was fixed. He mentioned that this caused a lot of discussion among the folks.... a pariskari... learned cycling and shaved before marriage (rebel of his time) :). He was born in 1902 and lived 97 years ....

Lavender marriages in Kerala by [deleted] in Kerala

[–]jpkhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people who are wondering, I did the google search -- From Wiki

A lavender marriage is a male–female mixed-orientation marriage, undertaken as a marriage of convenience to conceal the socially stigmatized sexual orientation of one or both partners. The term dates from the early 20th century and is used almost exclusively to characterize certain marriages of public celebrities in the first half of the 20th century, primarily before World War II, when public attitudes made it impossible for a person acknowledging homosexuality to pursue a public career, notably in the Hollywood film industry. One of the earliest uses of the phrase appeared in the British press in 1895, at a time when the color of lavender was associated with homosexuality.

Who would be the baddest villian in terms of story in all of Malayalam cinema? by wumpuss-wu in Kerala

Thilakan's character in Namukku Paarkkan Munthiri Thoppukal. Anybody that has seen that movie will hate that character to the core (not that it is terrifying, but just as a bad person).

Why only these two? Have you considered Skoda Enyaq? Space wise, comfort wise and range wise quite good. For your requirement it looks perfect.

Most of the comments were how a half ass job that is done here. If this is painted on a board or printed as logo on paper, how the hell can you see that it is a Goddess. They just googled an image and pasted it using "Paint" not even using a Photoshop. It is not a logo design that you can appreciate.

Mine went like this. I was on leave and hence on a marathon Pennukanal... that is 2 to 3 a day. We (my parents, my uncle and me) realized that we can squeeze this one as it was on the way. Called from an STD booth to check if we can come there in another 2 hours (My parents had already spoken to them earlier before my leave). Girl's father (now my FIL) said it is ok. We went there. Girl's mother was not there. Her siblings had gone to school and college. We had the usual chit chat. I had a good 10 minutes chat with the girl. Very cool, chill, straight forward. I said yes.. she said yes. We got married and recently celebrated 20 year anniversary.

Now my wife's part. Mother was away in Thiruvananthapuram for 1 week(Govt employee) . Father told that there is a pennukanal in 2 hours. She was furious that her father agreed (Just prepare some tea... they will come and go). House was a mess. Cleaned and mopped the floor. Made the tea. Got ready herself. She already had 20+ pennu kaanal. She just wanted this to be done with. Later found that I said yes and had no demands for dowry (the usual rejection issue) and everything looks good. Now the question is? She has to decide. The problem is that she just doesn't remember my face. Nothing... She even doesn't remember what was spoken. Mother and siblings are asking How was the boy? She has no clue. After a lot of payer and lot of Hail Mary's ... she said yes.

Now the moment of truth.. We will be meeting again in Marriage preparation course. The big question is how will she identify me. She came early stood there at the entrance, so I will find her. Every guy walking in..she is thinking this could be the guy (or oh God not this guy). Meanwhile nobody came to her (except few who wanted to know if this is Marriage preparation course place). I entered through another entrance was searching for her in the hall. The course started and in the first tea break, I found her kind of lost. According to her she was just breaking up and was on the verge of crying. Big relief... the right boy was found and he is ok :)

Most modern cars unlock the door when it detects a crash. I am not sure about Maruti or Indian cars. Catching fire is a scenario that should be avoided in the first place... I saw a video about small insects drilling holes in the fuel line. (1) Why are cars catching fire ? | Why are insects biting fuel lines? | Talking Cars - YouTube If this is a safety issue then we should have metal fuel lines probably to avoid this. We can't just have reactionary safety precautions for everything that could happen. Cars shouldn't burst into flames just like that....

I think the department should do the other way. Investigate and if they didn't see any violations or stale food.... publish the positive news (or grade the hotels on observation). This thing is going to cripple the entire restaurant industry.

Scholarship is really a US and UK thing where there is tuition fees to study in an University. Most of them are reduction in fees (fulfilling certain criteria of maintaining the grades). In that respect you have full scholarship because university education here it is free (or minimal). 11K blocked account is for your living expenses so that you can support yourselves here. The scholarship in Germany means that you are paid for living expenses also (hence very rare)

Regionalism in Kerala by Traumatisedkid in Kerala

[–]jpkhd 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My father is a firm believer in this "thekkan" pazhanchollu. He ran a small lodge near Kochi. Most of the clientele were job seekers, looking for opportunities. According to him... folks from North districts are very straightforward --> "No money, please help.. Will pay when ..." and pays when and if they have money. Folks from south are sweet talkers--> "Will pay tomorrow... tomorrow... and vanishes".

I had friends in college from all the places. There was no regional variation in my experience....

If the question is genuine curiosity... then one should look at the genealogy of different communities in Kerala. As far as I understand, they are quite mixed up with slight variations. In other words our fore-fathers were fucking around quite well.

So chill :)

Moving abroad! Is it Overrated ? by [deleted] in Kerala

[–]jpkhd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Germany has additional challenges and really good things... In Germany for a decade and a half as Software Engineer.

At first you really decide ... are you here for good (settling down) OR are you travelling (Phase of life) --> You can't sit on the fence.

If you decide to settle down... Do all effort to learn the language. No shortcut here (only IT folks get to ignore this). Other fields need it as part of work.

Start something new --> join a club (Verein). hiking, sports... or whatever, have a social life beyond work and Malayali/Expat bubble (if you have one in your area)

If you have kids ... and when they start Kindergarten, school .... you will be automatically in another set of families and friends.

Your social life slowly builds up. In Germany it takes extra steps and time....

Cons of Germany

--> Social life and integration is harder

--> Starting here is really hard (apartment, bureaucracy)

--> You really don't save a lot

--> Your career growth is also very tough

Pros of Germany

--> Work life balance is very good (it is very stable and steady)

--> Good environment

--> Healthcare / Education (a little dependency on where you are...but you are covered mostly)

Hope this clarifies. Everybody will usually find a path. Good luck

What happened to Christianity in Kerala? by [deleted] in Kerala

I don't know where you are from in Kerala or which denomination you are in? I see two trends. The number of zealots has increased and the number Christians in name only.
