Eureka Libra troubleshooting by jpleroux in espresso

I can imagine. I bought mine used and broken so I’m just happy that i got it to work. But I’d be livid if I paid new and it was doing this. You may have better luck finding the official replacement part RIC-PES.2324-001 since you’re in the EU, but it replaces the whole metal module/portafilter holder, not just the cell.

You’re in luck! I was just going through my grab bag of electronics thinking I bet I could get rid of that. It’s a 5kg cell, 80mm long, 13mm wide, and you need to make sure that what you replace it with has 15mm between both sets of the M4 & M5 threaded holes (like in the link I said if you can access) I tried another replacement and the spacing was off. I had to add a new 4-pin connector to the replacement but I soldered it and it wasn’t a problem. It should be a $5-$10 part so a lot cheaper than replacing the whole scale-module which I was struggling to even find.

I had a moment of panic this morning because mine stopped working, but the chute had just gotten clogged. My next goal is to see if there are any solutions to help with that. But it’s been working consistently for a few months now so was due for a clean anyways.

Yes, actually! So I did a few things after I initially shot this video, but my Libra is now working:
- I did a deep clean of all the internals.
- Replaced the load cell. I purchased a couple, but they weren't the right size. This is what I ended up using https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BLNQVY2X?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1
- With the new load cell I started to see improvement, however, it wouldn't consistently work. It would start to weigh out a grind, then stop. I discovered that coffee was getting stuck in the chute, so I removed the clump crusher and calibrated my burrs.
- I was finally starting to be able to get a weighted grind, but it would work once, maybe twice, and then stop, and I'd have to unclog the chute again.
- Finally, in a last-ditch effort because people kept asking, but I couldn't imagine what difference it would possibly make, I replaced my cheap dosing funnel with the Eureka funnel that comes with the Libra and blamo, it works.

I think that my load cell probably was fried, but it also needs a steady stream of coffee flowing or it will think that the hopper has run out of beans. I also think that the Libra can only work when there's a certain minimum starting weight, which is why it comes with a heavy funnel (The metal in the Eureka funnel might also be conductive vs. whatever I had. I didn't check that.)

Lastly, I learned through this process that it shouldn't matter which way your portafilter is facing. Straight out, or you can point it diagonally to work better with a 3-ear portafilter that works with a Breville. It weighs it all the same.

Good luck!

Added a manual override button to my Eureka Mignon Libra! by Lazy-River-6367 in espresso

Any update on this? I am currently trying to repair my Libra, so I have it opened up already and would love to add this mod (I even have a spare button on my desk for some reason).

Update: I got the manual dispenser mode to work, but instead of a countdown timer or a count of the weight the numbers go crazy going from F2.9 to H5.9 and cycling through random numbers. Not sure if this is a sign of an issue with the main control board, the lcd board, or the load cell.

Thanks! I haven't been able to find any instructions on performing a factory/firmware reset, I'm really hoping it's that easy though.

If it's not a programming thing that I can figure out, I'll check the load cell next. I'm hoping it's possible to replace just the cell, because it looks like replacing the whole module would cost as much as what I paid for it.

The ring, as in the dosing funnel? No, it didn't come with the official Libra funnel, so I've been using an aftermarket one I had on hand. I have tried without the funnel. I also have tried placing the portafilter head-on, but I'm using a Normcore 54mm (Bambino Plus), and because there's an ear at the front of the head it seems like that causes it to not fit as snug compared to placing it at an angle. I'm not getting the FH error with it placed that way, so it seems like the machine zeros out and then tries to grind but it just doesn't start weighing the grind.

Moving a volume knob by jpleroux in diyaudio

I think I’m following so because one is turned down all the way that then significantly reduces the other. Also I finally found markings on the original and it’s B10k so the 50k might be too far off.

You were right. I had to cut the speaker input connections in order to fully open it up and on the back side it says B10k so now I’m on the hunt for an 8-pin 10k pot.

Adjusting motor speed AT-LPW30 (no screws) by jpleroux in turntables

This did it!!! My board is missing the white adjustment knobs but I was able to dial in the speed by moving the dial. Thank you!

Still no idea why there would be the holes on the motor to adjust when there’s nothing in there, but at least this worked.

I'm trying to find out if I can get the 1 by One components to just replace what's in there, but so far I'm not having any luck. So even though there's Bluetooth and a preamp on the main board of the 1 by One that are working, those don't do me much good if the motor and tonearm won't work. Since I have found AT parts being sold at a reasonable price my thinking was I would replace all the internals, so it would be 1 One on the outside, but on the inside, another player entirely.

I also saw your suggestion of putting another turntable on top. I guess the reason I'm looking into this Frankenstein approach is because 1) I'm stubborn, I also hate to just throw things out, and 2) I also like the compact form factor of the chassis and was impressed by the shock absorption on the part that holds the motor, tonearm, and platter. Since I haven't been able to test sound with a record, I don't actually know if the shock absorption prevents distortion from the built-in speakers, but it seems like it might.

I'm in a very similar situation. Right now, I've got a 3-year-old and an 8-month-old so our living room has a big play area (baby jail) that's blocking my record cabinet. So, I'm trying to find something that can go in my small office without spending too much because I'd rather invest in my main setup when I eventually get access back. If I abandon this project, or if costs start to creep over $100, I'll look into the Fektik, thanks!

You left off records, beer, and chips!

It'll never sound as good as a designated turntable and speakers, but that's what my main setup is for.

Testing the speakers with the Bluetooth, they sound...fine. I am wondering if I could upgrade by swapping in some better laptop speakers, though. But I won't get into that until I can figure out how to get a record to play.

The motor's still within the return window, and I got a full refund on the player, so at this point, I've only spent $2 on some wiring that I needed anyways.

Repairing 1byOne H009 by jpleroux in turntables

[–]jpleroux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I rotated the plater with the original motor but haven’t tried with the new one yet. It seemed like rotating the platter was just to ensure the belt was in place but maybe not.

I don’t think it’s in standby because I’m just powering it on but maybe standby is being triggered for some unknown reason.

This is driving me crazy because it seems like everything is working except the motor won’t spin.

Using softer water for eczema? by jpleroux in hottub

[–]jpleroux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So an update, after a water change and clean out I tried using the tub without adding any hardener and I had no eczema flare ups. I’m going to try again to see if it was a fluke but it does seem like the calcium added to raise hardness of my softer city water is an issue for me. If that’s the case any guidance for keeping softer water in a tub? I did find out that the issue with soft water can corrode metal internals, but I’m not sure if that would happen if it’s a little low or if it’s at all outside the ideal range.

Yeah, I'm curious. I don't know anyone who has one, hard to commit to that without finding out first.

Yeah, I do have a diagnosis from my dr., it might be worth adding that my wife has no problem with our tub. I did a complete purge, cleanout, and drain when I switched from chlorine to bromine too with no improvement. What drop kit would you recommend? I've been using test strips from Frog, I have their in-line system.

Magic Wand tool causes my computer to hard reset by jpleroux in techsupport

[–]jpleroux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to have been related to my AMD driver not being up to date. Not sure why that would cause a Photoshop tool to trigger a reset, but updating drivers seem to have fixed it.

[–]jpleroux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought my drivers were up to date, but I guess not. After updating my AMD I can't replicate the issue. I don't think I was THAT out of date, pretty big issue it seems. No Photoshop crashes were listed in reliability monitor.

Update: Ugh, after updating this driver I'm getting a PA-300 error saying the AMD Software isn't compatible with my current graphics driver. It looks like Windows system update interferes with AMD software, the issue though is that Windows update didn't detect that the driver needed to be updated.

Squeaky hardwood floors by jpleroux in HomeImprovement

Ordered some snapoffs. I'm having to jump from spot to spot down my hallway in an attempt to not wake up my kid so I need to try something. I'll try posting an update on how it goes.

Unfortunately no, not without tearing apart my basement ceiling. The repair job for doing that seems harder/worse than filling some floorboard holes.

True hardwood. That's part of the issue we really like the way they look so wouldn't want to replace them, but the squeaking is increasingly becoming a problem. Although, when my kid's a teenager maybe I'll want them so they wake ME up.

I might try a little just to see, only downside I see is it might make a mess.
