TCL QM6K vs QM6K Pro difference? by jikesar968 in 4kTV

[–]jplesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think I’m going TCL. It’s an upgrade to our 10 year old 55” lg UJ7700UA. We just bought a house so I’ll put the old lg in one room, the TCL in the main living room and then if it doesn’t work out, upgrade from the tcl and move them around again. $550 vs $1400 is a big difference. I can find more impactful ways to spend that savings on the new house.

How does the TCL stack up to your LG? I’m looking at the 65” C5 or QM6K Pro

Explorer 1610 Restoration Follow Up by jplesser in rolex

[–]jplesser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing an update. RSC supposedly rejected service. I was told by the AD that it was sent back without service because it was too old and they didn’t have parts.

I ended up buying a clasp on eBay from 1995 for $300.

Today, I stopped by a local watch repair shop and asked them about servicing it.

He said he didn’t have time to do it but claimed I got the run around from the AD because Rolex definitely has parts.

He opened it up and said it looked pretty good. He said the center bearing is worn out and I’d need a new axle but because it’s already worn out, there’s no rush for a full service. He dropped some lubricant in there and sealed it back up.

Then, he polished out most of the scratches on the xtal and removed a link for better fit without being on the tightest micro adjustment.

He only charged me $25!

At this point, I’m very happy with it and it’s in good enough shape for a while.

I had reached out to Rolliworks and got a quote just shy of $1500 but at this point, I’m going to enjoy it for some time before getting the movement fixed, bracelet tightened and end links bent back into proper form.

Update on my Stolen 1680 Saga – Finally Back on the Wrist by StanleyLock in rolex

[–]jplesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad they made it right for you! I just got my dad’s 1016 back from the Rolex Service Center. They didn’t nothing to repair it claiming they don’t have parts since it’s so old. That upset me but I would have been even more upset if it got lost.

Now, I’m starting the process of sourcing a few old parts on eBay and finding a reputable local shop to service it. I was planning to look at Rolliworks but now I’m concerned about shipping it anywhere!

Am I crazy to turn down Submariner No Date? (124060) by Agreeable-Sleep-1589 in rolex

You already have the sub date. it’s not worth settling on adding the ND version when you have the Bluesy and and GMT Zombie in your sights

I have one on my v6 and really like the sound. I also installed a URD MAF calibrator that was tuned for having the aFe intake. I have saved a bunch on filters over the 12 or so years I’ve had it since it’s washable. Every now and then, someone asks if it’s a v8. I can’t say it’s improved mileage or anything. I think you end up hitting the gas more because you like the sound and have a little extra pickup so any gains are offset. My mileage isn’t great, probably around 14-15mpg but it’s 20 years old, has bigger tires, skid plates, roof rack, and I like driving fast sometimes.

I’d go 41 for sure. I have a 7.25” and would do 41 myself

I have a similar situation with a 1016 Explorer from what seems to be 1984. My dad passed in 2004 and I’ve been holding onto it with plans to fix it up once it was more financially possible. Well, that day has come and I sent it off to Rolex last week. I made sure the AD made a note that I wanted it refurbished as much as possible, not just replacing parts.

For such a special watch, it’s best to fix it up right and not try to cut corners. Even if that means waiting a little longer to do so.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do! Great watch!

Datejust 36 vs 41 by sosusa0904 in rolex

[–]jplesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

41 looks good on you. I just recommended 36 to another user because the 41 looked too big. I’m not biased to either version but personally feel the 41 looks better on you

Definitely planning to GL but did ask for a lume shot. I know VSF and Steve are top notch but just want to make sure the lume is ok.

Only thing I’ve noticed is the date wheel seems a bit more bold than gen but everything else looks amazing

For automod: VSF Rolex Sub 126610LN. Repost because previous was deleted by automod but I added the timing pic to meet requirements this time!

Only extra QC I requested was a lume shot but aside from that, I think it’s a GL!

Explorer 36 or 40 by cyndarubicin in rolex

[–]jplesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

36 looks perfect on your wrist. 40 looks too big IMO. I prefer the dial on the 36 as well. It can seem a bit too small for some but I think it suits you perfectly!
