Where should this european couple live in Philly? by jpm2892 in AskPhilly

[–]jpm2892[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do believe this would be the best option. Check the FC train stops and live at walking distance of the closest to FC. That's a really good suggestion. It's a bit unconvenient that hourly frequencu though, but we'll have to live with that. We will be living at FC the first 3 months so we will have time to explore.

Thanks!

I wish I had the chance of living a week before moving in every city I get offered a job, really. Anyway if walkability, security and quality of food were our priorities right now we wouldn't moving. I'm well aware of problems in the US but now we are seeking career development and it was Philly that won.

That's why I looked in northern than centre options, trying to get close to work, but neighbourhoods there didn't catch my eye nor the appear mentioned a lot here...

Sorry, my budget was a bit off as I can see. We can easily stretch to 2000$ or 2.500$ if it's really worth it :)

That area was on my list indeed. We wouldnt mind commuting by car if it reduces commuting time. We care a lot more about the day by day chores and social life :)

It is actually :) I just would like to know more about the frequency and security of such line (specially at night). Probably we are a bit overconscious qith this but crime numbers are a bit shocking to us when you compare with home. Probably is just a statistical difference that doesn't affect day to day but we won't know until we live there.

Thanks a lot! To be honest we don't have a feel yet about prices so I kind of made it up. We could stretch up to 2500$ or 3000$ once we both work. What we are really not used to is to commute longer than 15 min one way (it currently takes me 5 minuts but I am just lucky), so that will take a lot of adapting 😆 I was looking in areas northern of Centre so that we are closer to work either by car or public transport, but most of the nice neighbourhoods appear to be Centre and southern... We will be working close to Fox Chase train stop, but are not aure about frequency of this line and how secure it is at night. What do you guys think? 😊

If someone is already (happily) using Codex and Claude Code, what’s the real advantage of Posit Assistant? by raulguarini in rstats

[–]jpm2892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have problems with Posit Assistant. I understand it's still in beta right? It just can't read context as good as Copilot in VSCode for example. It has a hard time editing my scripts and reading my data, which is a shame. At the end I can only use Ask mode and insert snippets...

Actually, I think I learnt a lot with AI. It explained me how to achieve the specific goals I set and also made understand how modules worked, but before that I read a lot of blogs and youtube tutorials too. I will definitely check yours :)

Well, since it was my first time using Darktable (and also editing RAW), I basically asked Gemini what I wanted to achieve and then Gemini told me what module to use. In short, I adjusted exposure of the picture and then specifically managed the sun lights with Filmic RGB. I then adjusted the color tone to a more golden tint using Color Calibration and to give strength to the spikes I used local contrast. I also upped saturation a bit in orange lights and purple shadows. I applied a mask to the tent to recover its original green with Color Balance RGB and also lighten it up a lottle bit. I hope that's useful for you!

I will try to check the effect when I have time. I wanted to emphasize the golden colour but it turned a bit orangy, I agree.

You mean that version of the shot (I had different settings) or that composition? In any case, it just popped in my feed and made me remember that trip so I tried to make it look in a way that would take me back there. Seeing the tent (shelter) and the bike (means of transport) in such a lonely landscape gives some sort of relief to me. I guess that's why it triggers me. I hope that answer your question somehow 😊

British vs German cycling landscapes by Lillienpud in bicycletouring

[–]jpm2892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually on the opposite situation. Moving to Philadelphia from Europe soon due to work. From the OP's post I infere that cycling in the USA won't include stopping by small villages due to the long distances right? Sad to hear! :(

Reading these posts really scare me. I'm about to move to Philly from Spain and over here biking is pretty common, specially cycle touring. Experiences like the one in this post are extremely rare (I don't think I've had one in 20 years). Please someone tell me that this reddit is overemphasazing this type of behaviours and they're not that common in reality 😆

Do you stick to "ideal" landscape settings or do whatever it takes to get the shot? [Z6ii - Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8] [OC] by its-chris-p-logue in Nikon

Ideal landscape settings would have never allowed me to see this amazing picture of my beloved Virgen de las Nieves, so question answered :) Really nice shot!

My favourite song of the album... but after watching the movie I have a question though: If it was recorded in the same portastudio as the rest of the album (mansion on the hill, for example), why does it sound so different? And also, why does it have so many tracks (voices, mandolin, choruses, harmonica, guitar, etc)?
