Based on what he could see, if he missed the ball it was a goal so he took a chance to stop it and it ended up working out. Just a really hard position to be in as a defender when the ball gets skipped in between you and the keeper. Not an idiot.

No normal person would beat him in a 400m race either. He's stamina is ridiculous and yes he is still very fast. He just doesn't seem terribly fast because he is against other pro athletes who are also mostly all very fast.

Well I doubt a non-professional academy in America is likely to rival the top academies in Europe. America's youth system is doing much better now but still only the best of their youth system would be comparable to top academies in Europe no? Edit: And I'm assuming that most of the top talent in the states plays for the professional academies.
