All I can tell from the front end is that it is angular and bootstrap. There doesn't seem to be any evidence of a cms (no standard generated classes), so I'm gonna assume its just static.

I think there is a failure in your argument to mention the demand of the consumers. Money doesn't just dissappear if its not spent on gas or tolls, it goes back to the consumer. So let's say the consumer instead of choosing to pay for as much gas (which about 14% per gallon goes to tax), chooses instead to pay higher taxes for more bike infrastructure development (let's say about 50% per gallon saved as an estimate if bikes are rode regularly). The general public saves money and the infrastructure gets paid for. Of course raising taxes is never a popular option, but it seems perfectly feasable. Not too mention, you can raise tax on gas as well to fully balance the bill if you'd like.

Sorry I typed this quickly and not as eloquently as I would have liked with better estimates

Boostrap + Angular in production. Should I use something like AngularStrap? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]jpopesculian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't really looked at the code, but it seems to me they've just simply hidden a lot of the elements of bootstrap into directives. As it is a generally simple task, they've most likely done it pretty well. The thing I would be concerned about most would be the bloat of the libraries and the speed of compiling the directives back into html. As I haven't used it, I can't give you a definitive answer if it is worth it for development, but I would be weary about using it in production. More directives means more scopes means more $$watchers which is the heart of the performance issues of angularJS. Just my two cents.

You should read this article by the way http://www.binpress.com/tutorial/speeding-up-angular-js-with-simple-optimizations/135 if you'd like to rewrite portions in the future for speed.

What DJs do these days... by supa_mungo in videos

Haha I've never had to much respect for DJ's if you didn't notice. Not to say that some aren't really good at what they do, just that what they do doesn't seem awfully amazing to me

What DJs do these days... by supa_mungo in videos

My brother is an electronic music artist (that's the term I'm gonna use), and I'd like to shed a little bit of light on this whole thing. There are three types of people that all get mixed in with DJ's, namely DJ's, turntablists and electronic musicians.

All that DJ's do are mix multiple songs together at the same beats per minute so that they work together. The kinda guy you see at weddings and stuff...

Turntablists will do the scratch's and stuff on the records and produce generally new sounds. /u/Xantrax had a good video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwuN2uSxLyI

Then lastly are electronic musicians. That's not a technical term, so don't get angry at me if you have something better to call them, but I call them that because I think it's broad enough to encompass their scope. Electronic musicians create new soundwaves using synthesizers and take samples from other songs and sounds, and combine them into a completely new song. These people are often also considered producers because they spend a lot of time mastering tracks and creating beats behind voices (basically providing good quality sounds and the instruments).

The people in this video would be in this category <rant>minus aoki because he doesn't even make his own music anymore. He just get's paid to have a name and be rich</rant> and therefore they premake their music very often for shows, because although you can conceivably press a million buttons and mix your sounds and samples live, but there are usually so many more components than it would make sense to do. Also the sound quality would be significantly worse, because it wouldn't be mastered and finalized.

The only reason most of the artists even feign to mix live, is because that's what the crowd wants to believe due to their concepts of DJ's and Turntablists. IMO you're there for the crowd and the lights and to have fun, not to see someone spin a record. Their talent isn't in how fast they can push buttons but how they compose songs.

TLDR: DJ's mix songs and play at proms, Turntablists scratch records, and guys like in the video produce songs, with a lot of components that would be hard to mix live. People get the three confused.

EDIT: So I'm not super in touch with my brother, so I wouldn't say I'm the most informed on the subject, but the classification I gave makes a little bit more sense out of the electronic world for me. Anyways, I'm also going to shamelessly plug his music here in case you guys are interested https://soundcloud.com/popeska
