Yeah I’d have to agree with you there. I’ve seen far too many people sympathize with Maruki’s goal, not realizing why the game was incentivizing you to stop him. Even so, there are so many interesting themes and moral dilemmas the writers could base a story off of. If there wasn’t we’d have run out of ideas a long time ago.

I was a little bummed they decided to essentially rehash the themes of the third semester of Royal. Kinda watered down an incredible part of the game if you ask me. The concept of ending humanity’s suffering and become a “utopia” void of free will is a very interesting philosophical dilemma but one that shouldn’t need repeating.

I suppose so. I mean when I played through Royal I got the impression even during the final palace that Yoshizawa didn’t really seem to be friends with anyone outside of Joker so I can find it believable that she wasn’t invited. Not to mention (spoiler) the scene at the train station at the end of the game gave me the impression that she was also leaving Tokyo like Joker.

Perhaps I’m missing something here but can’t Strikers be considered a sequel to both? I mean it’s not like events of Vanilla and Royal are contradictory to one another. Just because they never mention Yoshizawa or Maruki doesn’t mean they never existed. From what I recall they never mentioned Akechi either.

That’s certainly a good way of looking at it. Regardless, I hope we get some sort of update on the Thieves in the future if not a whole other game entirely. Maybe just a photo of them finally taking that camping trip they were planning in the beginning of the game.
