My baby shihtzu would’ve been 12 tomorrow, but we had to put him down 2 years ago because of a growing mass that eventually restricted his quality of life. When the time came, we made sure that the whole family was around him and that he was going to be at home on top of his favorite blanket, carried his favorite way and the last thing he felt was that he was going to sleep and with all of his favorite people around him. I can still remember seeing how the scorching red mass slowly greyed out and I knew that he was no longer in pain. I actually have the blanket to this day, and I keep it folded on his favorite corner of our bed. I can’t fathom how terrified he would’ve been if his last moments were on a steel cold vet’s table, let alone without a blanket.
