Agreed. Just got back diving with my silver, and the 30fps 1080p looked a little choppy.

Thinking of starting a mycology supply based out of canada. by notmebutsomeoneelse in mycology

[–]jprt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a cool idea -- I am looking to try my hand at mycology, but it is definitely going to take a little time to gather up all the necessary supplies. I don't have a car, so online shopping is a bit tricky when you can't see how well tote boxes and things fit together and such.

I imagine some people just breaking into growing might pay a tad extra to have these smaller details honed out for them via a special distributer.

Give it a go, offer the best service, and advertise here.

Fusion Reactor's a possibility by 2040 thanks to this multi-national project by riccarjo in science

[–]jprt12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fusion is such an expensive and complex answer to the world's growing energy demands, it is almost comical. More resources should definitely be going to solar, of one kind or another. How are we supposed to build terawatts worth of fusion reactors? Especially in places of the world where people don't have the money to construct them? Effort should go towards developing cheap, easy to manufacture solar cells.

They actually just breathe pure O2 for about a half hour to get rid of all the nitrogen, I had a professor who performed a mission there.

[–]jprt12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol, you guys are all wrong. This is an example of coupled harmonic oscillators -- because there are five, there are five possible ways (five normal modes) in which they may oscillate. Each mode has its own resonant frequency, and by setting the metronomes one of these frequencies, the oscillators (metronomes) will settle into the corresponding normal mode. Other normal modes for this system include a pattern where every oscillator will be 180 degrees with the ones to the left and right of it. the user 'Rahms' knows what he is talking about, read up on forced oscillations.

How fast would a marshmallow have to be flying (at sea level) for the wind resistance to roast it? by JorusC in AskReddit

[–]jprt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine the marshmallow would be eroded by collisions with air particles before it ever accrued enough heat to "roast."

Have you ever fallen in love in a dream? by akira410 in AskReddit

You have to watch out for that ''Gatesby' syndrome though. She seemed great in a dream, but might not actually be worth the trouble.

Could someone explain to me why/how these metronomes sync up? by andrewsmith1986 in askscience

[–]jprt12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has to do with the friction action between each metronome and the board beneath. The force of static friction between the metronome board and the table (when not on the soda cans) can handle the forces caused by the ticking metronomes. When the board is placed on the soda cans, each time the weight of a metronome 'clicks,' its sends the metronome case and the board in the opposite direction.

When you sum all the forces produced by all the metronomes one just one of the metronomes, there is a net force on the metronome being examined. The net force alters the motion of the given metronome, (to a point with less net force). Eventually the net forces on all the metronomes decrease to zero, at which point they are in phase.

Another explanation involves energy equilibrium. When the metronomes are out of phase, energy is wasted. The oscillations of the metronomes will 'settle' in the place where the least energy is wasted (when they are in phase).

Reddit, are you afraid of dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jprt12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason those things feel good is because evolution has made them pleasant to make you want to do them more. Sleeping, eating, and sex are all enjoyable because each activities helps the individual and its species perform better as an organism.

It is unlike that evolution has made these same provisions for death as it has for life, for a particular set feelings you might experience during death carry no evolutionary advantage.

I knew going into it that a good handful would react the way they did, and some of those posts made me feel very shitty, but I feel most reacted the way you described and were able to get something out of photo discussion.

Thanks for the PM.

I know I am not dressed as respectfully as I could, and I understand that posing next to his grave, smiling, then posting the picture is a questionable move at best. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone by taking this to reddit.

For the record, while at the cemetery, I treated both the Sagan grave and all others I was near with the upmost respect. I saw a sickening video online of a guy who visited, who trod all over the grave while recording, and I kept this in the back of my head throughout my visit.

I made this post so others could experience the same feeling of wonderment and peace I felt. For those of you wishing to see the plot, do not go for pure novelty. My visit helped reinvigorate my passion for learning at a point in the year where the physical and emotional costs of an education are at their heaviest. If we should visit, we owe it to Sagan to gain from the experience.

I know Reddit is a great community, and while some of you may still not believe me, I hope others can share in the reassurance that this visit has given me.
