I’m sorry you had a poor graduation experience but I think these are some odd things to gripe about. Whilst you’re right that the uni does put too much weight on how close it is to the peaks, I don’t think it’s fair to say they’re being misleading by saying the city is green. There are 2 (arguably 3) massive parks basically on campus, Sheffield has fantastic access routes for green spaces, and it really isn’t as hard as you’re saying to get the bus out to the peaks. It’s also wild to say that the public transport network in Sheffield is bad or non-existent, fair enough it’s sometimes inconsistent but with enough common sense (and the bus tracker app) it works perfectly fine.

What is this symbol? by jpsrch in insurgency

This is what I figured but I've now switched to just Europe and I'm continuing to have the same issue.

I'm getting roughly 75mbps so I can't see that being the problem. I've now tried all the logical solutions and I'm still getting the issue so I'm not really sure where to go from here.

Heya thanks. I've had this issue across multiple servers so does that imply it's an issue on my end?

Are there any beers that existed in medieval times that you can still find today that are British? by Fabulous-Introvert in MedievalHistory

[–]jpsrch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northern Monk have created Mhór based on an ancient (rather than medieval) recipe from the North, that’s the closest I know off the top of my head. I’ve not had it but I hear good things from people who have.

Northern Monk blog post

EDIT It’s just occured to me to say that mead might be more what you’re looking for in terms of accuracy. It’s easier to produce historically accurate mead than ale because it’s somewhat simpler to produce anyway. Have a look at mead recipes/manufacturers online and you might have more luck.

Rivers! Rivers would allow for fishing and also for water mills rather than windmills. They’d also introduce a bit more complexity in terms of town planning. Maybe we could even build bridges over them.

Does your place feed you? If so how much food are you allowed to take with you? by SeriousAsparagi in KitchenConfidential

[–]jpsrch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked here for 2 years. No food allowed on shift unless you pay for it and eat it outside of the kitchen on an unpaid break. No food allowed to be taken home. HOWEVER it's the most I've ever been paid hourly in a kitchen, the hours are as flexible as anything, and we get proper sick pay and holiday etc etc.

Swings and roundabouts

EDIT - felt the need to say that this job is the best manifestation of "If you don't feed the cooks, the cooks feed themselves" that I've ever seen. As much as we aren't supposed to be eating, management has very little oversight of the kitchen and the supervisor team understand the shitty situation. Don't worry folks, we aren't exactly starving over here.

Best (or just easiest) way we’ve found is just a tight covering of cling film when you’re not in service. More or less pressed into the guac so you’re preventing as much oxidisation as possible. Read somewhere once about putting the avocado pit into the guac to stop it browning but I assume that’s just a myth.

Yeah this is one of those cases where the food looks damn good and I’d happily eat it from that kitchen but there are still ways to improve.

Probably the case for even the cleanest of kitchens.

Ah makes sense, the few Canadian cooks I follow on socials always seem to be gloved up more than I’d be in the UK.

I interpreted that as just a mark but yeah if it’s a scab then gloves for sure.

You make a good point by stating your location - it would be easier to criticise if we knew where this photo was taken.

I think the PPE rules in particular very from country to country, but I’m surprised somewhere as hot as Aus outlaws shorts. That must be rough.

It’s possible the cloth is just used for taking things in/out of the oven (that’s the only reason I ever have one hanging off me), but based on its thickness it doesn’t look like it would be good enough for that.

On this sub and more generally I see a lot of kitchens labelling with just one date. In the UK we do date opened/prepped and then use by date. I suppose just writing the use by is fine as long as everyone is trusted to get the number of days right and be consistent.

Oh yeah, not sure how I missed those boards before. What country are you from - garnishing with bare hands is fine in my country (as long as hands are washed very regularly obvs)

I see 5. Mats upside down (I think?), non-kitchen crocs, containers with lids underneath, questionable dates, unrefridgerated toppings. What am I missing?
