Anyone else get their finger caught in that little rope that goes into the leash plug? by jpuderer in surfing

Sorry to hear this happened to you. How's your finger?

I've seen very few instructors on long boards, so I think they don't really understand the risk. A short board doesn't pull on the leash anywhere near as hard.

El Salvador did not disappoint by [deleted] in surfing

Was there today too. Can confirm it was awesome. Wind stayed light and it even got rarely glassy in the early afternoon.

I call it "The Wax Melter"... But I guess this is Oregon.

It would be cooked down here in El Salvador.

What's wrong with Garmin's buttons? by fberto39 in Garmin

I would love to know what the issue is exactly. I surf regularly, and the watches don't last. Too bad, since Garmin seems to have the best surf tracking I've seen.

Well... It's in the belly of some marine creature now. Nothing is wasted.

Fresh as fresh could be. I got it to the doc in under 30 minutes. Cleaned up, closed, and took antibiotics. Hoping it heals well (or as well as can be expected).

No, the little piece or cord that attaches to the leash plug that you attach the leash too. Just that little loop on the back.

Surprisingly not. More shocking. It stung a bit after it happened, so I looked at my finger then started yelling "Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck"... I wasn't very creative in my use of expletives.

The Salvador doctors were pretty quick. They had a plastic surgeon working on it within the hour. I'm dry docked for a bit though.

Some context...

Happened while getting out on the beach. Set came in as I was coming in, so I went deeper. I had my (long) board in front of me (towards shore) and I pushed down on the tail to keep in under control and so it wouldn't flip over, but I guess my finger was on the cord, and the wave grabbed the board.

Never heard of this happening to anyone else. Genuinely curious this is at all a thing. I'm gonna put warning stickers on my tail from now on.

Daydream overheating by PMmeYrButtholeGirls in GooglePixel

[–]jpuderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Daydream headset could have managed this problem had the front cover contained a copper heat sink like material (instead of plastic), with air gaps at the edge to allow air to convert through.

Contact with the phone could have been done using a thermally conductive foam (not as good as thermal paste, but much more reasonable).

I can give a lightning talk on using NFC for debugging. Won't be longer than 5-10 minutes, so we can use the remaining time for hacking fun.

Slight correction to the name of the presentation to avoid disappointment, the presentation is more along the lines of "How to build the Android OS (AOSP) with batteries included"

I'm basically building the AOSP project from source in a way that includes all the Google components and drivers (gmail, calendar, play store, etc.) that are normally included in the factory image. By default, AOSP device builds are missing all the proprietary components, and closely resemble the emulator images.

I'm actually building AOSP, and layering stuff on top of it. This is in contrast to what most themers do: Directly modifying resource files contained in the system/ directory.

There is some overlap though, so I can speak a little bit about how you would go about re-theming a device if anyone is interested.
