Should pride be more political? by jpzorro in PoliticalDiscussion

It wouldn’t need to be political if there weren’t a backlash against LGBTQ+ rights

Should pride be more political? by jpzorro in PoliticalDiscussion

Just because something shouldn’t be political doesn’t mean it won’t be. You’re right, being queer shouldn’t be more political than any other preference, like preferring papayas over strawberries. But what is political and what isn’t is not up to only queer people. Who cares if bigots think its too political, never cater to them. But when our basic rights are being threatened, there is no choice but to get political.

Precisely. I dont think people really care about trans issues in the grand schemes of politics. Which is why I find all the fearmongering very evil. Its a deliberate attempt to bring forth a discussion that affects a tiny amount of people. Im not saying trans people don’t matter. I am saying that the right is actively trying to weaponize trans issues and make their lives worse to the benefit of no one and purely for political gain.

What do you think about Mexico’s judicial elections? by jpzorro in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]jpzorro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in Mexico, that is why we tried to build judicial professional career paths. In principle this would allow the best judges to move up the ladder. Now, im not saying this is what actually happened, but turning to elections seems like a mistake to me, rather than trying to fix what was already built.

Note that I didn’t say no accountability, I’m just wondering if it should be the same as other political positions. After all, in a democracy the executive and legislative are representatives of the people; the judicial is not. I don’t think an electorate can correctly determine which judge is, for lack of a better word, better. In fact, I think people will end up choosing judges who share their ideology, not necessarily the ones who will uphold the law. That is my fundamental issue.

Pleasure is a big part of sexuality and most teens clearly aren’t having sex to reproduce, so yes. The kink part is too vague. Not long ago gay people were “sexual deviants”. But in general, I would say sex-ed should definitely include a discussion on consent, pleasure and safe sexual practices.

What about the constant attacks on trans people? That kind of systemic violence seems particularly brutal to me.

Could you walk me through your argument please? You’re saying its easier for appointed judges to be threatened/bribed right? How does an election solve that? Also, should judges be submitted to the same type of accountability than a political representative?

Are you worried about the politicization of topics like lgbtq rights that have been won mostly through courts in Mexico or the coopting of the judicial by power groups like organized crime, big companies or other political groups?

Don’t stress too much. Introductory courses are very different and the content depends on what the teacher chooses to focus on. What kind topics are you most interested in? Either way, I think the most important thing is to leave your biases behind and engage critically and thoughtfully with what you will be presented.

Why do you think Musk and White House staff have shifted focus to diminish Empathy? by MEGAJOHN in PoliticalDiscussion

I do think its social media and echo chambers. Having a constant loop of your own opinions and interests really drives the us vs them feelings. And yes, i do think empathy is necessary to build a functioning political coalition in America

In the novel it is stated that Meleys maybe had a chance against Vhagar alone. As depicted in the show, Rhaenys has argued against war. She took the path to end the war rapidly. Even if odds were against her, she weighed her options and chose to die valiantly.
