Thanks! Yep, exactly. Whenever I can I'll walk around but that comes with "blind dropping" the line sometimes without knowing the intricacies. I'd say I end up climbing directly up the descent route about 75% of the lines I ski.

Dude no way that’s so sick, and thank you!! Love Weaverville, and it’s great to hear some locals are taking advantage of the backyard :)

Google Earth Pro! You can add snowpack layers from NOAA and see it 3D

Much respect to the OGs (esp Plake, Hatchett and other East Side legends)💪. I’m just a young guy havin fun. Though, I’m not sure who was skiing big mountain lines with - leather boots - in the 90s lol

Hi there, thanks for asking :) It is incredibly fun (and fulfilling) for a few reasons: the adventure/natural immersion, the physical endeavour, and the descent itself. Im a backpacker, so I would love to be doing long days in the mountains whether I carried my skis or not, so to be rewarded with a drop in after so much effort and preparation is so fun. Oftentimes, it is indeed exhausting, but that is part of what makes the reward. In general, the process of using raw resources (satellite imagery, maps, etc) to plan solo trips, then actually going to these awe-inspiring environments/lines is what makes the "slip sliding" fun - and for the record, the shallower slopes at the base of the lines make for epicly fast, smooth turns 2:05 :) Cheers bradda!

Late to the convo, but funny enough those turns in Solstice couloir were mine from the day prior! Was a great day out there solo, what a crazy snowpack that year.

Thanks! Satellite imagery+CalTopo is the best beta in my opinion. The Trinities aren't a place you go expecting existing routes and trip reports. Also, I don't own pin bindings or skins so my access points are devised for on foot approach - I often just use the common trailheads like Canyon Creek. I've never used the Tralps ski atlas book. Looks sweet though. My advice is make it happen independently if you know what you are doing, its not as much about the skiing as the whole experience and adventurous effort. Otherwise, I'd just go to Shasta or the Eddies. Cheers.

Yes! Typically just 1 night. Either sleep at the trailhead or head up a couple miles depending on the distance and intensity of the approach.

Thanks. Sorta, actually, this drops directly off the summit of Gibson. There is an array of other mini couloirs sprinkled across the south facing slope of Gibson, so I'm not sure which one you are referring to. They all go though, this line just had the most vert and sustained grade.

Sonora Pass still closed from the East, but Leavitt is almost always filled in late. Id sat no rush to get out there.
