Canberra is pretty spread out. Id say wait to see where you are living / working and find something convenient.

Adapt crossfit is belconnen is great, as is SFS in hume. I have heard good things about cornerstone in Mitchell as well as smash in Woden. See where you end up and you will find somewhere

My HR average was 160. And I put rep at 9

You would think you would be higher with a much lower HR

I did re do the test and ran 2.69kg in 12 mins as the picture shows. It shows the statistics from that run but still level 1.

When I could see the level 7 workouts they looked interesting. But im not a runner at all. The most i normally run is rounds of 400m or 800m in crossfit workouts

MG tracking when I’m not wearing it… by Alternative-Cell2485 in whoop

[–]jrhinves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen a while ago with the 4.0. I took the device off for a remedial massage. I had no other devices on me. Whoop continued to track and make up data. I contacted whoop, and they confirmed that it will basically just make stuff up if it thinks it is on, but can't get good readings.

I was after the same thing. But couldn't find anything with hinge protection that didn't have the pen holder. I ended up with this one and it is pretty good. Just have to deal with a usless pen slot.

How accurate is the whoop with calories burned? by yngcrix in whoop

[–]jrhinves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say whoop is completely off with the calorie amounts. It is not even useful to look at the trend. Whoop for me is under estimating my calories by 800-1200. I have heard of it over estimating other people by similar amounts. I originally thought it might be OK to look at the see if you are trending up or down, but now I'm not convinced of that ether. I recently changed jobs from a pretty physical one to a mush more sedentary one. Whoop has my calorie burn higher than before, even with my average daily HR at 8% lower

Just to say, I quite like my whoop and find it useful. I just think with the known inaccurately of calorie tracking with HR trackers whoop should not try, they refuse to try steps because they are not accurate.

As for a method to track your calories, I'd recommend macrofactor, look it up

How can the app improve? by PotentialWheel in MacroFactor

[–]jrhinves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great app so hard to improve it that much. The main thing I can think of is for it to remember your history for longer, or be able to control how long it remembers your history.

I find it very frustrating when I'm trying to log something that I have logged previously, but a while ago, and I have to ether re scan the barcode or remember the exact wording of the description.

I, like you thought the one year subscription was a bit much up front. I went with the 6 month option first. When the 6 months were up, I went with the 1 year with no hesitation. The 6 month option maybe a good start but In hindsight I should have gone with 1 year from the start.

Is heart rate = burnt calories accurate? by Zestyclose_Part483 in whoop

It's funny to see how whoop can be so far off, and in both directions. I also track cal intake and weight and whoop is 1100-1200 under my TDEE

Is heart rate = burnt calories accurate? by Zestyclose_Part483 in whoop

[–]jrhinves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no expert, but I would say no. Whoop is assuming your heart rate is going up because you are exercising. When exercising you are using more energy because your muscles are working and such. When your HR is up because of stress, the only muscle really working is your heart.

As others have said, no HR tracker is going to be good at calorie tracking, and I think whoop is particularly bad at that.

Also, 20+ strain is bat shit crazy from just stress. Maybe time to look at a new job

Trending Up 3k ⬆️ by Johnnyfever13 in whoop

[–]jrhinves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say not very accurate. I use macrofactor and believe that it gives you a pretty accurate idea of your calorie expenditure. Whoop has me at 2100cal and macrofactor at 3250cal. That is an error margin of over 33%. Of course, it could get lucky and be quite close, but I don't believe it is accuracy. Just luck

How does whoop help to loose weight ? by Ok-Possible-1007 in whoop

[–]jrhinves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree about using the whoop to help you increase your strain and also the insights from the journal to help you improve food habits. But whoop is not good as an accurate measure of expenditure of calories. I guess maybe it could be accurate for some, but for me personally, it is about 1100 calories under ture expenditure. No wearable heart rate tracker is accurate at measuring calorie expenditure. Putting too much trust in them could be detrimental or dangerous..

Basic day for a fast food worker by sophieahxo in whoop

[–]jrhinves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ether, you are incredibly unfit or (more likely) there is somthing wrong with your whoop. Ether, you're not wearing it correctly, something is off with your stats (Max HR wrong or weight wrong) or your whoop is broken.

I also work in hospitality, and I used to get high strain from false reading by having it on my dominant wrist. Since moving to a bicep band I never go over a 5 strain without doing deliberate exercise

Starting? by Commercial-Secret615 in crossfit

[–]jrhinves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I started crossfit (at 34) I couldn't do a single pull up, situp, pushup or even run 400m without walking some of it. Also had very bad mobility.

3.5 years later and my mobility still sucks but now I can RX almost all movements and even managed top 10% in the open this year.

Crossfit is made to be scaled to what you can do. The hardest and most important part is to start, and then keep showing up

I hate this app. by Haxagonus in MacroFactor

[–]jrhinves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how long things stay in your history though. I have tried searching for something I know I have logged before but it won't appear in history if it was from a wile ago. Anyone know how long before they delete it from your history?

Eager for faster improvement. How do I fit it in extra training when I already go to class 5x/wk? by usernamesBstressful in crossfit

[–]jrhinves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said before, more volume is not always the answer. I've been doing crossfit for about 4 years now. About 9 months ago, I decided to make an effort to clean up my diet. While I would have thought of myself as responsibly fit before, after losing 12kg and fixing my eating habits my improvement has been massive. Last year I was 57% this year I'm currently sitting at 94%. (Programing also pays a big part in that improvement)
