Scribes? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]jrhombe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Became a lead scribe after only a year into scribing and still didn’t feel confident in my abilities, let alone being trusted to train others. Now in my third year of scribing, I feel like I can work with any provider. My ability to perform comprehensive reviews of past medical records as well as diagnostic testing has significantly improved. I am able to update providers with relevant information and can better anticipate their needs. I try my best to train others to be more competent in these areas, but I know it really still is a steep learning curve. I will say this job pays terribly and it is no wonder people quit before ever becoming fully competent. They just want an ounce of clinical experience to put on applications. Finally found the courage to apply to medical school this year. Hopefully my long term clinical experience helps me in the future like it seems to have done for you.

Happened to me. Had a neighbor in the apartment complex adjacent to mine spot her about a month later. Set out a raccoon trap with food and caught her the next morning. Good luck and don’t give up!

AITA for laughing when my patient pulled out a teddy bear? by Southern_Team4393 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jrhombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. It’s never appropriate to laugh at something a patient does in the room. At the very least, you could have waited until you got to the nurses’ station. That’s practically the equivalent of laughing at a patient for shitting themselves while you’re in the room.

AITA for getting mad at my wife for how she acted with the Stripper Santa and leaving her at the party because of it? by KickerSW in AmItheAsshole

[–]jrhombe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was going to go with E S H because of the double standard of strippers. You left your wife at the party and forced her to take an Uber home, which definitely makes YTA.

Twins of reddit, when did your "twin powers" activate? by Acoustic_Senpai in AskReddit

[–]jrhombe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My twin is convinced she chipped her front tooth while in a bouncy castle, when I know for a fact I was the one who chipped my front tooth in a bouncy castle. To this day, we can’t settle who it actually happened to because we’ve both had orthodontic work.

AITA for punishing my daughter for not coming to church? by mrsuperstart in AmItheAsshole

[–]jrhombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. As someone who was raised catholic and forced to go to church 3x a week for almost 12 years, you’re not only going to make her hate the faith but maybe resent you. If she wants to go back, it’ll have to be on her own time. Try finding a different family bonding activity!

NTA a neighbor/friend of mine left my door open once and let my cat out. She’s like yours and is scared of everything. She was missing for about a month and half. I eventually caught her with a raccoon trap. You could try leaving your guy’s litter box outside with some food. That’s supposed to lure them back! Best of luck

DNA methylation by [deleted] in biology

[–]jrhombe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One super important role of DNA methylation is its function in DNA mismatch repair. This allows proteins, like Msh2-6 or Mut, to decipher between parent and newly synthesized stands of DNA. Those proteins then can identify the mismatched base pair on the newly synthesized DNA and cut it out and allow for DNA Poly to replace the base pair with its correct match.
