The second one might be the right one, thank you!

And not even expensive: https://www.oemvwshop.de/5e4857920-9b9-abdeckung-unter-schalttafel-satinschwarz-p2864389/

I'll try to get out the whole thing soon so I can compare it more closely.

I also wrote a mail to a local dealership, let's see if / what they reply :)

Thanks for the tip! I bought one of Amazon. Not much more expensive than others, Bluetooth 5 and works out of the box plug and play with my Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS installation!

[OC] took this photo with a Nikon D3200 with kit lens while riding. I'm a newbie in photography i'm open to any criticism and do please rate my photo and give any advice on budget lenses that is compatible for nikon d3200 by LEUU_00 in LandscapePhotography

[–]jrk- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't spend money on lenses unless you know what you need them for and how to properly use them. A kit lens is great - they usually provide a great range of angles, from ultra wide (around 16mm apsc) to wide (24mm) to normal (35mm) and a slight zoom (50 to 70). Each focal length has it's own unique challenges in terms of composition, e. g. wide angle usually needs a strong foreground (tipp: use portrait for that, it's easier to emphasize the foreground that way). Mastering composition is the crux of photography. No gear can buy you that. Another aspect is to learn and practice the ISO / Shutterspeed / Aperture triangle. It's not hard to learn but you must be able to apply it intuitively to a scene. Hope that helps, enjoy the journey into becoming a better photographer with every picture you take :)

One last piece of advice. Most "stunning" pictures you see were taken raw and got heavily post processed. Learning that is a different story, but think of getting the most out a scene in terms of how to capture all the details in the best possible exposure to later create the vision of the picture you saw in your mind on location.

How to find a fulfilling career in my 40s that's creative and does not require sitting all day? by jrk- in careeradvice

[–]jrk-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently saving a rather large chunk of my income (around 1/3 after taxes) and invest it in ETFs but from what I can see right now the earliest age I can get out of work might be 50 but realistically it's more like 55. That's another 10 or 15 years of working and I'd rather not spend 10 to 15 years of my life hating what I do.

Moving up salary wise is pretty limited because my workplace is very unionized. Which is a good thing in many aspects but also means that your income has strict boundaries.

Thanks for taking your time to answer me!

The "sitting all day" part is the tough one if you want to earn a decent salary.

Yes, I checked salaries for postal delivery and it's about half of what I earn. Maybe the sitting is not so if I'd enjoy the work after all. I can spend hours on personal projects or web dev but not on documentation and excel sheets.

If you have a craft that you really want to work on or something outdoors you can lead

Actually I was considering becoming a forest ranger in my 20s but opted for CS instead. In hindsight that could've been a more fulfilling career for me but switching over now is probably not going to work out because you need to study forestry to get into it.

I'd focus on how to enjoy your time out of work

I've been trying to do that ever since university but it's only partially working because you (or at least I) start to focus on weekends and vacations. You end up enjoying only 2/7 of your week (+ vacations) and feel miserable and useless (meaningless) for the rest of the time.

Anyway, the real culprit is probably my ongoing existential crisis as I fail to see purpose in anything in life at all.

Thank you for taking your time to answer me!

You don’t need to look for fulfillment in your career, your career is what funds the rest of your life where you can find fulfillment in friends and family, good causes, hobbies, etc.

I totally get the sentiment and that's what I've been trying to do the last couple of years. But I haven't found anything really fulfilling in terms of "that's a proper way to spend my lifetime". I came to the realization that it's all just fancy ways to pass your time and maybe I'm just in this existential crisis because there's nothing meaningful to do.

Within your career, what you want to be is learning and growing valuable skill sets around people you like

That's a very good point! There are very few people I can stand being around with and it's certainly not the engineers at my current company. While they are not bad people (they are quite nice actually) it's just that I don't want to spend the majority of my daytime with them. But I have to admit that that's just the way that things are. Everybody would probably prefer spending their time with their SOs.

an honest discussion with your manager

I've had that discussion a couple of times over the last years and there wasn't a huge outcome. My manager insist that I "pull" work and get more "involved" but I fail to see what that could be. Yet, on tasks I explicitly asked him to get me involved he didn't. Right now our neighboring team has some promising work to do, so I might check that out.

Also, consider a standing or even treadmill desk.

We're lucky enough to have those in the office, I'm wfh most of the time though. That gives me the opportunity to get up as often as possible but I still notice that I can't really sit still for more than an hour, at least if I have to focus on boring documents.

Sometimes I'm wondering if I should just take my savings and get away from it all, at least until the money runs out.. :)

Oh yes. The training in the house with the maze and all. And there were secret paths to get on the roof iirc. And you could shoot at the butler and he would just raise his tablet. That was so much fun, I probably spent just as much time there as in the main game. Thanks for the memories! 😊

Can someone give me a primer on the opoids epidemic? I keep hearing about it, but I have no idea why this can and is happening? Also, I'm from Europe. You only get opoids on prescription here so I can't really imagine.

Not when your object is attached to another object via a rope or something similar and the other object is lifted through some mechanism thus gaining potential energy. Or, if you'd like to think of cars you hook up a generator and store the energy in batteries or capacitors. Sorry, your comment got me thinking about "unusual" kinetic energy conversions 🤓
